Yes, both Alfonso and Vaughan point out in their exit interviews that they've already finished filming and have been 'gone' for a while.
I fear that when Days "returns" (that is, when the stockpiled episodes run out) it will look and feel like the final, painful years of Guiding Light where the budget had been cut so deeply that the show could not afford to pay anyone a decent salary. They had to basically abandon their studio facilities because even that was too expensive. They ended up filming with hand-held cameras in open fields and small homes in New Jersey. They didn't even have the money to pay for wardrobe, hair and makeup, expecting their actors to do their own hair and makeup and do costume changes in port-o-potties. If we learned nothing else from the Guiding Light spectacle, it's that the folks in charge ought to know when to call it a day.

It could be that daytime soaps have had their run. The landscape of viewing a series has changed dramatically...all thanks to Netflix. I think however daytime soaps in general have forgotten how to move/change with the times. The last remaining daytime soaps is mindless dialogue where people don't appear to have paying jobs and far too much time on their hands. While soaps were once mindless escapism I think people know expect a touch of realism.
Newman Enterprises. What is it exactly? The Bold and the Beautiful at times would focus on Forrester Creations. I cannot recall the last time they presented a fashion show. However the major gripe from me is the ever revolving recasts. Take The Bold and the Beautiful. I now only recognize Katherine Kelly Lang and John McCook. And don't get me started on that boring Liam Spencer.
Soap operas from yesteryear were engaging with seasoned professionals, astute in their chosen craft. Today the soaps are filled with wannabe hacks, employed on the basis of looks and physiques. Give me Tom (Macdonald Carey) and Alice (Frances Reid) any-day.

DOOL needs to come up with a good plan to stay alive. It won't get renewed forever and the generation who still watches won't be around forever.
With fewer soaps left, the ratings have somewhat plateaued instead of continuing to drop. However, people in the younger generations (below 40 at least) are often not watching regular TV. Many of people I know don't even own a TV anymore. Some only have Internet connected to a big screen to stream series and films.
Daytime soaps must be available to stream in excellent quality (preferably without any single commercial break) or they will stand no chance. They must look great and be easily accessable at the very least.
I believe that Y&R and B&B will be the last 2 standing. DOOL will go first as it's already shook up with exits, time jumps and renewal drama. I thinkDOOM DOOL will be gone by 2025. GH will probably last at least 5 more years. Maybe 10.

The thing that DOOL has going for it is that it was apparently very popular on the NBC app, consistently being number one there. Of course, now it's moved over to the new service Peacock, but I can't imagine that less viewers will watch it there than on the NBC app, so it has that going for it at least. I could at least see them giving it a go on moving online if it gets cancelled on linear television.
