Highlands (History Repeats It Self spin-off)

stevew

Telly Talk Star
Well considering that Sue Ellen went under the name "Sue Ellen Ewing" on Dallas TNT I always assumed she had divorced Don, moved back to the US and taken back the Ewing name. But I guess it was never addressed on the show so you can use whatever creative freedom you need to write the story any way you see fit.

Can you change the title to Highland (History Repeats It Self spin-off)? It’s been bugging me that there’s no connection between the two.

Season
Episode 6

Television news report: “Five executives from Bishop Chemical face charges over inflating the books prior to the company’s merger with Bing, including Ryan Riebmann. The share price of BingBishop began trading today under five dollars a share, lower than even experts expected, that was until hearing the company’s board appointed Ryan Riebmann’s nephew Sam to the position of President and CEO of the combined business and eliminating the separate presidents of the three division, potentially calling off the three way split expected ted next year.

Edgar Rosemont remains on the board, but he no longer holds an executive position over Bishop. Wall Street wasn’t happy about any of this news, Sam Riebmann’s inexperience and Edgar Rosemont’s side lining, with many echoing calls for outside blood to save the company. Sam Riebmann is married to Amelia Rosemont, Senatorial candidate from Michigan and the daughter of Edgar Rosemont.”

Sam sits at the head of the table meeting with the full board, including Dia and Edgar and Sue Ellen Ewing. He welcomes Sue Ellen, “Thank you for replacing my uncle so quickly. Sue Ellen has overseen the Ewing Family Foundation for sometime. Her charitable work includes poverty abatement and educating at risk youth. Easily one of the greatest philanthropists in the county today. And as an independent member on this board we hope to satisfy the New York Stock Exchange’s stringent requirements for such. So, welcome.”

“Thank you. Happy to be here.”

“We’re going to change course. I’ve looked over all the reasons to split, but I don’t agree. Yes it would release more value, but with the current situation what we need is stability and a diverse product line gives us that stability, to compete against companies like BASF and SinoHuà. But we also need cash to show Wall Street we’re serious about a healthy balance sheet. So before you is a proposal to self half of Demeter to Ewing Industries.”

Amelia takes policy questions, answering where she stands on the issue and then she’s asked about the murdered intern. “Shocked,” she responds. “Yes of course I remember him. A nice young man. Very passionate about the issues. His death has shaken us all.”

“Are you concerned there might be a connection to your campaign?”

“His murder? No I don’t see how there could be any connection. No one has brought anything to my attention. Of course we’ll do everything we can to cooperate with the investigation.”

“His friends say he talked about having sex with other interns, volunteers and even staff.”

“I don’t want to engage in gossip. I think what consenting adults do in private should remain private. But if it’s somehow related to his murder I would hope our interns, volunteers and staff would confide in the police with what they know.”

“You haven’t spoken to the police?”

“No I haven’t.”

“And you’d be willing to?”

“Of course. I’m sorry. I know this is very important and I’ve privately given my condolences to his family, and I’d like to now publicly relay my condolences to his family. I can only imagine the pain this has caused. But, I think we need to return to policy questions.”

Jon walks into a Detroit apartment coming across his father sitting at a desk, closing his lap top. “Tell me to my face it isn’t true, you didn’t fix the books to make Bishop look better off.”

“I’m not going to explain myself to you.”

“You dragged me into this merger so we could run Demeter. Everything I’ve spent my life working on is tied up in that company and you’re losing control of it.”

“Go tell it to your friends up at Highlands.”

“What’s that suppose to mean?”

“Who do you think is behind this move? They’ve pushed me out and managed to drive down the stock price so they can gobble up shares.”

“Who?”

“Your lover. The Ewing’s.”

“So you’re saying you didn’t fix the books?”

“I’m saying Ewing Industries just bought half of Demeter. Give them time, they’ll buy the other half.”

“You’re still not answering me.”

“Your uncle invested a lot of our family money in Bishop, as well as the Kellogg Fund. I did what I had to do to get us on an even footing with Bing.”

In their bedroom at Highlands Sam comes out the the bathroom in a towel and Amelia congratulates him on taking over BingBishop. “Now you’re going to keep the company together, right?”

“That’s the plan.”

“And you’ll look like the hero saving it from near ruin. Excellent. You’ve got two years to do it, and get yourself appointed to every economic group you can think off. Your image isn’t the stay at home mom coming up with some charity thing, but an expert on the national economy and one of the country’s greatest business leaders. A woman politician has to have an equally strong man. I’ve got to play somewhere between shrew and weakling.”

“That’s if this whole intern thing doesn’t blow up in your face.”

“I had nothing to with his murder.”

“That’s not what concerns me. If you sleeping with him comes out.”

“It’s not going to. And if it does, I just deny it.”

“I did my part. You’d better hold together your part.”

Jay sits at a hole in the wall bar nursing a drink. “Get ya another?”

“Sure, why not?” He turns to the pretty girl next to him. “Hi. Name’s Jay.”

“Manjula.”

“You’re beautiful.”

A guy returns and says, “Hey that’s my girl.”

“Oh I’m sorry. Well, you’re handsome too. I didn’t mean to leave you out.”

“Jason sit down. He was only being nice.”

“Nice my ass.”

Jay says, “He’s right. I was hoping to talk you into coming back to my hotel room.” He pulls out a wad of one hundred dollar bills and leaves one to pay the bill. “But I’m not here to get in a fight. I’ll just be leaving. Unless.”

“Unless what?” Jason asks.

“Unless the two of you want to come back to my room.” He holds the cash out. “I wouldn’t mind just watching you.”

“For that?”

“This? Well a couple hundred if I’m just watching. You can have the stack if i can join in.”

“Join in how?”

“Jason!”

“Serious Manjula, look at that stack. That’s a band isn’t it?”

“Yes and no limits if you want it.”

“How about I just take it from you.”

“You think a person who carries this kind of cash walks in here alone.” Jay nods to two men over by the booth keeping an eye on them.

The three have sex in a hotel room.

Sam walks into a modest brick bungalow and is greeted by a beautiful woman and a little boy. She kisses him. The little boy hugs his legs. “How was your trip, sweetheart?”

“Excellent. I’m really getting somewhere. I’ll have the deal of a lifetime rapped up soon.”

“Well dinner’s waiting for you. I’m so glad you’re home.”

Late into the evening, Jon works in his lab distilling rapeseed into fuel, the room full of other technicians.

From outside, the building explodes, setting the twilight sky on fire.

Jay runs into the hospital emergency room where Lucy stops him, grabs him and says, “Ryan’s in with him.”

“Is he OK?”

“I’m afraid not.”

“No!”

“Jay. Please just let Ryan be with him.”

“No!” Jay collapses in her arms. Liang helps her get him to a sofa to sit, inconsolably sobbing, crying, “No!”

Burned beyond recognition, Jon lies in a hospital bed with Ryan leaning over the side. “I’m so sorry Jon. I’m so sorry. I promise you I’ll accept Jay. I love you. Please don’t leave me. I’ll make everything right. I’m so sorry.”

Sam and Amelia walk in next. Liang explains that Jon’s on heavy morphine, waiting to die. His heart hanging in there but there is nothing they can do. Sam and Amelia look horrified. Sam asks, “What happened?”

Liang answers, “Dia’s on his way over. I intend to ask.”

The heart monitor beeps a straight line and Lucy pulls Ryan away, “No! No! Don’t take him from me. No! Please. Lucy help me. Please help me.”

“It’s OK Ryan. He’s not suffering.” She holds him.

Jay collapse by his bed side. “I love you Jonny. I love you. Please.”

Sam and Amelia stand in the doorway holding each other. The room filled with despair.

Edgar extends his hand, “Mr. Yi. Welcome to Michigan?” Lake Huron with the sun rising over it in the background.

Liang speaks to Dia and Lisa in the waiting room off the emergency entrance. Dia says, “I have no doubt Edgar can fill you in.”

Lisa gasps, “Edgar was behind the explosion?”

“No. He just wants control of the Kellogg fund out from his cousin David, Sofia Ricardo and the Ewing’s. He was hoping the money he made off of the BingBishop deal would give him a seat at the table. It still might. No the loser here is Miao Yi.”

Lisa says, “The guy in the Chinese government you know?”

“He wants Demeter bad enough to kill. The pressure’s on. The Chinese house of cards is about to fall and he intends to walk away with a pretty big share.”

“He was behind the theft of the Ewing Process?”

“Of course he was.”

Suddenly a stunningly beautiful woman walks in the door, surrounded by an entourage. Lisa says, “Who’s that?”

Dia answers, “Alya Rashid.”

Liang adds, “Sam and Jon’s mother.”

Liang walks Alya back to the room where her son is. Ryan says, “Alya,” to her.

She ignores everyone and walks up to look at her son. Horrified. “You’ll all pay for this. I promise you. You’ll all pay for this.”

Yes I thought Sue Ellen would be a nice touch.

It was kind of suppose to be a Bobby died in the car crash kind of thing where everyone gathers in the hospital. Them his mother shows up. She has reason to (at least in her mind) to hate them all (even those not in the room) for the death of her son (sort of like everyone having reason to shoot JR). Keep in mind Sam is also her son. She had two boys by two brothers, but Sam taking the company for himself made Jon a target.

Season 2
Episode 1

The family watches as Jon’s body is lowered into the ground, roses are tossed into the grave and slowly everyone walks away but Ryan and Lucy stays with him.

Sam follows Alya. “Mother. Mother wait.”

She turns in him. “What for what?”

“What for me.”

“For you. You might as well have killed him yourself, you and that stepmother of yours. You knew there’d be consequences for what you did, just as your uncle knew if he didn’t pull off the deal.”

“That’s not fair.”

“Not fair? It’s not fair that your brother should have come before your’s and that succubus’s ambition?”

“We didn’t do this.”

“No Miao Yi did this.”

“Who?”

“Stupidity doesn’t relieve you of your guilt.” She walks away.

Dia and Lisa step up next. They give him their condolences. Dia says when they get a chance, he’ll explain Miao Yi.”

Lisa steps up to Jay and hugs him. “How are you holding up?”

“Not so good.”

Liang helps Jay to his car.

Lucy sits on the ground with Ryan.

Lisa walks over with Brooklyn, Jon’s ten year old son. “We can take him to the house for you, for the luncheon.”

Ryan says, staring at the porn grave, “No we should go.”

Lucy says, “Brooklyn. Do you want to stay with us, your grandfather and me? For the summer at least. You’ll have Jacqueline, Albert and Calvin to play with, staying in the house with us and Tony and Jillian next door.”

Ryan holds Brooklyn and the little boy cries.

In the cottage Liang helps Jay into bed. “I’ll stay out in the other room if you need me. Miss Lucy asked me to stay with you.”

“Thank you.”

“She’s looking after Sam. You know, you are both like sons to her. She’s very worried about you.”

“I’ll be alright. I just need to rest.”

“I’ll be outside the door, if you need me.” Liang walks out and closes the door. Behind him, inside the room, he can hear Jay cry.

A limousine arrives at a gate and is greeted by a security guard. It’s then let through.

The limousine pulls up at the front door of a mansion and the chauffeur holds open the back door for Alya to step out.

Alya is shown into a drawing room where Edgar and Miao are meeting. “This is convenient. I assume you’re Miao Yi. I’m Alya Rashid. Hello Edgar.”

“Yes I am. Should I know you?”

Alya looks him up and down. “I came to look Edgar in the eye, but now I see I also get to size you up. I’m Jonathon Riebmann‘s mother.”

“I see.”

“I’d it a habit of yours to destroy what you cannot have, and the fact that such a building had dozen of lives in it, makes no difference?”

“I assure you I had nothing to do with the lab explosion. There’s nothing to gain in it for me. Demeter manufactures, among other things, the chemicals used in fracking, and is in fact the sole manufacturer of the chemicals used in the Ewing Process. This manufacturing happens else where and I assure you, I wish it to continue.”

“I’m told you were behind the explosion once you lost Demeter to Ewing Industries and BingBishop.”

“I’ve heard the same. But it doesn’t make any sense. Try Victor Sechin.”

“He’s dead.”

“But the network around him is not. Manufacturing the chemicals for fracking keeps the Russians and the Saudis from controlling the price of oil and gas, especially when you consider the Ewing Process. It drives down their profits, considerably. Wouldn’t they be more believable beneficiaries of such an act?”

Edgar says, “Plus their work in that lab on rapeseed could replace crude altogether.”

“The Ewing’s themselves benefit far more than I do.”

“We’ll see.”

Out in the terrace of Highlands, Lucy talks to Brooklyn about staying with her. “I travel a lot. Like come spring when you’re suppose to start school I’ll be in New York, than Europe. Your mother’s out East too and I believe spends time in Europe, but I’d get you a tutor and you could stay with me, instead of boarding school. Your grandfather will be way up north, hunting in November. I could take you there for a few days. I always meet my friends in Idaho to ski at some point. Do you ski?” He shakes his head no. “Well you can learn. But where always back her for Christmas and then some place in the Caribbean for New Years. You’ll love it. But I go back and forth from New York to Europe most of the year. I return to Michigan in June. If that’s something you’d like, I could talk to your mother.”

Inside Brooklyn runs up stairs and Lucy looks at Ryan, contempt filling her face. “That little boy deserves some stability. His mother isn’t fit to raise a hamster.”

“I think the best thing for him would be to be around you. You’re a better influence than . . .” He just stops talking.

“Alya?”

“What about her?”

“You two certainly have the least conventional marriage I know of. Now she blames all of us for Jonathan’s death.”

“How can she think I could live with myself, if I were responsible for his death? She knows me. Better than anyone.”

“I always thought you remained loving, mutually supportive . . . chums even. But above all, discreet, though separate lives, certainly separate beds.”

"Alya and I spent all our married lives getting into other people's beds."

“What angers me is your treatment of Jonathon for coming out. Because you felt you had to be discreet doesn’t mean he did. He loved Jay and you should have been happy for him. Now you can’t fix it. It’s too late.”

Ryan turns completely red faced.

“I know about you and your perversions. Yes perversions. And, I’ve even heard the rumors. I also know it’s not true, not to such an extent, otherwise you wouldn’t be standing here.”

“I don’t know what you think you know.”

“That you’re bisexual. That you’ve befriended people like Count Uradel. You knew people like Victor Sechin and Jimmy Devine. If you don’t want people to spread rumors that you’re deviant, maybe you should distance yourself from such people. A man who’s headstone was removed and broken up at his family's request isn’t someone you want a picture of yourself with to show up. Is it?”

“I . . .”

“I don’t care, that is as long as those in question are consenting adults. Because if they’re not, I’ll end you myself.” Lucy follows Brooklyn.

Jay goes through Jonathon things when Alya walks in the cottage door. “Are those my son’s?”

“Yes. Is there something you want?”

“Yes. You away from my son’s stuff.”

“We you’ll need to talk to his lawyer. Jon had a will which makes all of this mine.”

“Yours?”

“I’m as surprised as you are. It also asked for me to take over guardianship of Brooklyn if his mother agreed.”

“You keep up her alimony and she won’t care who looks after him.”

“I think I’m a bit young to be a dad. I’ve talked to Lucy about it and she’d like to look after him.”

“Of your generous benefactor who makes it possible for Sam control BingBishop. You know that’s why Miao Yi blew up the lab with Jonathon in it?”

“I’m well aware of what happened. And I don’t need your help handling Miao Yi.”

“I’m not offering it. Though I’m well aware it was your father who handled Victor Sechin.”

“I’ve heard that rumor too.”

Dia, Sam and Roger Leland sit in Sam’s off, around a round table, going over well marketed up financials and how to bring BingBishop to profitability. Sam says, “Basically what you’re saying is Bing is bringing down the whole company.”

Dia says, “I do have an idea. Bishop still enriches a limited about of uranium. Ewing Industries has a mining operation, Rio Vale, that has uranium. A lot of it. And also an alternative energy company with a nuclear power plant. If we can get federal funding, here and in other countries to ramp up the building of nuclear power plants, carbonless alternative energy, Bishop could ramp up its uranium production and return to profitability.”

Roger says, “It’s true but the political obstacles you’re talking about are massive and this doesn’t work without federal subsidies.”

Sam says, “So we get federal subsidies.”

Ryan sits up in bed, a sheet around his waist, the rest of him naked. “Lucy’s squawking about the legal costs. My father and grandfather had these trusts, where most of my money comes from. When my brother died she became the executor of both of them, money I share with Sam and Brooklyn, cousins.”

Lisa comes out of the bathroom in a towel. “How did she become trustee?”

“Liam trusted her and she could count on John Ross Ewing to help her. It was well within his power to do so, as well as leave her trustee of his own trust. It’s why I was putting the deal together, so like Liam I could be free of these family trusts. I just don’t have that kind of money. And with legal fees.”

Lisa slides up against him in bed. “Dia says you’re in a great deal of trouble.”

“It’s just a matter of keep putting it off and then appealing everything. But that requires lawyers. If Lucy cuts off the money, things will speed up really quickly.”

Alya walks into a sunny restaurant where Edgar is having lunch with Miao, against a window looking out into the vast Huron sea. “It takes some mighty large balls to be seen in public together.”

Edgar says, “Miao, this is Alya Rashid.”

“Yes I recognize you from photos I’ve seen. A very beautiful woman.”

“You really think this man is an ally?”

“Of course not. If he were I’d have Demeter instead of working around owning.”

“Is that what you call killing my son, ‘working around’?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Though I have heard the loss of that lab and the chemists within it has hit the market value of BingBishop even harder than your husband’s book cooking scandal.”

“I have a friend waiting for me for lunch. Enjoy your meeting.”

As she walks away Edgar says, “Don’t under estimate her.”

Alya sits at a table with Pamela Ewing waiting for her. The matriarch the Ewing clan stands and the two kiss cheeks. “I’m so sorry for what you’re going through Alya.”

“Thank you. No one would know better than you, after you lost your brother, and nearly your children. How is John Ross enjoying retirement?

The two sit and order drinks.

Panera answers, “Well he keeps busy with the ranch but I’m glad these days that’s all it. He had another clean bill of health at the doctors.”

“Oh his cancer hasn’t returned. Good. Very good. Your son Jay was hit pretty hard over Jonathon’s death.”

“I knew he was seeing someone pretty serious but he hadn’t mentioned a name to us yet. He’s a good boy.”

“He helped Lucy take control of BingBishop away from Ryan, which lead to this whole mess of Miao’s retaliation.”

“You can’t blame him for Jonathon’s death.”

“I can. And I do. Just as I blame Lucy. But I have to let that go.” She takes a letter from her purse and hands it to Pamela. “My son wrote me that letter just before he died. He loved Jay. He never spoke about anyone like he does Jay in that letter.” Alya tears up. “He apologizes for being gay. He apologizes to me of all people. Ryan and I have kept our lives so desire are even our own son doesn’t know who we are. He was going to ask him to marry him the night after the explosion. Of Pamela.”

“It’s OK Alya.”

“No it isn’t. I can’t hate the man my son begged me to love. But he maybe the only one I even hate myself. And Samual. But I don’t dare make the same mistake with Samual. Though I really don’t like that wife if his. Nor her father.” Alya looks across the room at Edgar.

“From What John Ross tell me, its Miao Yi who you should direct that anger at.”

“Of believe me, I do.”

“And your grandson, Jonathon’s son. He’ll need his grandmother. Especially if Ryan goes to prison. That mother of his isn’t worth a damn.”

“Another person I hate, Jonathon’s x-wife. Lucy is looking after Benny.”

“She’s not one of my favorite people but Jay certainly cares for her.”

“Samuel too. Maybe Benny is better off with her. I don’t know.”

“You know Miao will be take care of?”

“Oh I do. And you can be assured I will take care of him.”

Episode 2

Jay goes through more of Jonathon’s things, boxing stuff up, his face red and puffy. A knock comes from the door. The young man, in great pain, stands and goes to it. Opening the door he ages Adrian. Without thought he hugs him, holding him tight, crying his eyes out.

Ryan gets out of a hotel bed and starts to dress. A very young man comes out of the bath room. Ryan hands him a thick envelope. “There’s extra in there to keep yourself available.”

“Sure. Sorry about your son.”

“I don’t need your sorries. Just make sure you’re available.” Handing him two more packets, “And your friends next time. I don’t want any more excuses.”

Amelia gives a speech accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination for U. S. Senator from Michigan. Sam and the kids stand by her on stage, looking down on the crowded arena cheering as she goes through the party line talking points.

Margret meets a man in the park. She hands him a packet and he hands her a flash drive. “How do I know this is gone everywhere else?”

“You don’t. He could have had copies lots of places. I don’t know. But this is the only copy the police found.”

“They’ve seen it?”

“Just me. I found it and removed it from the kid’s phone.”

“You’re sure it’s removed.”

“Listen, I’m not looking for trouble. It’s removed. I’ve gone over everything else we have. There’s nothing else to link her to the murdered kid. But thus links her pretty well, and gives her motive.”

“You’ll be in touch if you find anything else?

“Of course.” He gets up and walks away.

Margret makes a call. “John Ross, I’ve got it . . . Yes I’m pretty sure she didn’t do it, but I’d say this provides motive to look into it. It’d certainly derail her election . . . Yes I do think in four years she’s got a real shot at the White House . . . Agreed.” She hangs up.

Ryan looks around a house as it’s opened up and cleaned by a staff of people. Alya walks in the room and says, “We’ve had some good times in this house.”

“And some awful times,” Ryan reminds her.

“It took us awhile to get to where we are. But we’re in a good place now.”

“Yes. Yes we are,” Ryan agrees.

“Why didn’t you move in here this summer? Why are you staying with Lucy?”

“I was hoping Lucy wasn’t going to be here this summer. This was more Liam than Lucy. And I though when all was settled I’d buy the house from the trust.”

“Oh I see. You were finally going to overshadow Liam. Your father’s business, his house. Kinda blew up in your face. You wanted everything Liam had, including me.”

“Well that’s a summery of my life.”

“No one should spend a life time comparing themselves to someone else. Life wasn’t perfect for Liam. And Liam wasn’t perfect. There was a lot of burden your father put on him, to clean up your family’s rather seedy past.”

“It’s just . . .”

“What?”

“I can’t seem to recall any of it. All I can think about is Jon.”

Alya hugs him.

Lucy stands out on the patio with the wind in her hair, looking out to the endless horizon of Lake Huron. Bobby walks out of the house from behind her. “I hear things have been difficult for you and that you might need a shoulder to cry on.” She turn and runs to him and hugs him.

Sam takes questions from reporters in the lobby of BingBishop. “Yes, we do plan on returning to being a publicly traded company. It’s just right now we’re better with our small team pulling in. We don’t plan on keeping it that way but we plan on fixing our books.”

“What about your uncle?”

“I’m not going to comment on him. He’s family, and I wish him the best. I’ll leave it at that. What I’m talking about here is the foundation of this company, shoring it up.”

Lucy sits on a hill with Liang watching a play of a teen age cast below, “Sunday in the Park with George” and the company performs “Putting It Together.” Lucy smiles and holds Liang’s arm, laying her head on his shoulder. Ryan and Alya sit next to them, sharing a picnic lunch. With the end of the number the audience applauds and starts to stand, one by one.

Jay and Adrian sail just off the shore in a little catamaran which takes all the efforts of both to control, Jay instructing Adrian. Adrian yells, “So are you going to tell me know, where are we headed?”

“An island off the shore the Riebmann’s own! It’s totally deserted except for an automated lighthouse!”

“You know me so well!”

Jay smile’s his happiest smile aimed at Adrian.

“Did Jonathon take your there?”

“Yes he did and I told him all about you!”

“You going to tell me all about him?”

“That’s the idea!”

“I love you man!”

“I love you too!”

Out in the back yard of Highlands the kids play Simon Says, Jacqueline directing Albert, Calvin, Brooklyn, Tony and Jillian.

Sam, Dia and Lisa watch them, talking about trips they took when they were a kid. Amelia goes over talking points with Margret. Margret calms out, “Sam, I sent a list of dates to your secretary. All she needs to do is make sure you show up. You just need to be there and be friendly, and proud. Oh and supportive. So if we’re talking to a group of teachers, you’re nothing but pro teacher.”

“I think I can handle that.”

Jay and Ardrian run up the spiral stairs or the light house, Adrian chasing Jay. At the top, Jay grabs up Adrian in the bright sun light. He holds him close. He says, “I miss him.”

“I know you do.”

“My grandmother use to tell me all about grandpa. How she hated and loved him and how long ago it all was. But I never hated Jonny.” Jay begins to cry.

“It’s OK.”

“Forgive me. Please Adrian. I’m so sorry.”

“No. No sorries.” He holds him tight. The wind blowing everywhere around them looking down on the world of green and aquamarine and the Mighty Mac bridge. “I’m sorry I left.”

“You should be.” Through a pain struck face Jay grins.

“I am.” The two kiss. “OK so tell me about him.”

“Well he was sixteen when he first fell in love with this guy and he was so ashamed. He tried to kill himself over it. His friend did.”

“He killed himself?”

Jays lips trembled, “Yes his friend did.”

“Oh my god.”

“Jonny cried over that a lot. He wanted me to know all about him. It was like he was still alive as long as he talked about him. Like my grandma with grandpa. As if JR wasn’t a legacy on his own, she never stopped talking about him. And Jonny wouldn’t stop talking about Juan.”

“Some days I pray for silence. Some days I’d pray to hear your voice again. I would do anything for you.”

Jay caresses Adrian’s cheek. “And I’d do anything for you. Anything you’ve dreamed of. Anything you needed. Anything. Just stay.”

“What if I can’t?”

“Then take me with you.”

“You’d want to go on the run with me? You see what they can do.”

“Don’t leave me alone.”

“I can do that.”

The two hug each other. Jay kisses him and runs back down the stairs. Adrian cashes him, down and out of the tower and along the beach until the foliage over takes the sand, and into the water. Adrian catches up to him and hugs him and turns him around. The two kiss and Jay runs back to the sand and keeps going. Adrian trying time catch up. Jay turning around and Adrian running right into his arms. The two laugh.

Jay says, “It’s my turn to keep them away from my family. Help me Adrian.”

“Of course.”

Looking up into the sky, Jay yells, “You hear that Jonny! He came back!!!”

I figured Brooklyn good be a good story line.

Amelia would be one of many Ewing senators.

sorry I’ve been absent. Life’s got crazy busy but with luck I’ll see a return to normal soon. We live in strange times. Hope all is well.

Yes all is well with me. I know what you mean about that we live in strange times. I also hope things will get back to normal soon. But it looks like the Covid-19 situation is not getting much better any time soon. I miss being able to travel the most.

I hope all is well with you and I'll look forward to when you have the time to catch up on my story. Although I understand if it will take a while.

Just been crazy busy. All good though. I write to distract myself but even that doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. 2020 will be a year to remember.

Season 1 Part B
Episode 3

Ryan answers questions on the stand, in court. “No I was not aware of fraudulent book keeping. The books I saw were the same available to everyone else. I relied on them and the so called independent auditors. This has cost my family a great deal of money, rights along with everyone else.”

“Yet it made your family a great deal of money, and would have continued to if. It exposed in the merger with Bing.”

“That’s just it. Why would I have pushed for thus merger if I’d have known this was going to come out? I agreed to take the stand because I am innocent. Yes I’m guilty of being fooled. I’ll admit that. Yes, I should have known. I’m guilty of being a victim, not of being a perpetrator.”

“Yet if this had gone through without being revealed, you, along with the rest of your family, would have benefited tremendously above and beyond those you want us to believe acted alone.”

Jay and Adrian have lunch out on the terrace of Highlands with Lucy. Jay tells Lucy how they meet online and how brilliant Adrian is. Jay tells Adrian how Lucy took him to New York as a kid. “I use to play basketball off West Street, down down by Battery Park. They had these courts squeezed in between the buildings and this crazy busy road. Lucy knew everybody and everybody knew Lucy. In one week I attended a mosque, a church, a synagogue, a Buddhist temple and a nihilist lecture.”

“I didn’t want my beliefs to influence him. I wanted Jay to explore and come up with his own beliefs.”

“So I was ten, talking gibberish I’m sure, and she took me to meet a Ajawīd of the Druze.”

Brooklyn comes out on the terrace. Lucy says, “Take a seat. We’re having lunch.”

“Miss Lucy, I thought about what you asked. And I’d like to stay with you.”

“That’s terrific. This fall we’ll go to New York and I’ll enroll you in school. Is that OK? A new school?”

“I like the home schooling better and going with you to Europe.”

“You do? That’s terrific. We’ll hire a tutor. Have you been to Paris?”

“No.”

“We’ll make the rounds. New York until mid September, then London, then Milan. We’ll be in Paris by October. We won’t be back to Michigan until the holidays. Then we’ll be back to traveling and return in June. I promise you Brooklyn, I’ll show you the world.” She leans in and hugs him.

Jay says, “She means it. By the time I was your age, I’d seen all seven continents and seven seas.”

“Why would you go to Antarctica?”

“Why not?” Lucy laughs. I remember that gorgeous polo player. We went to Argentina and end up in Antartica. All we did was take a pictures. It was freezing.”

“We ended up in New Zealand.”

“Oh that’s right. It was a Natural Geographic expedition. We meet Andrew Borgnine, the director, who wanted to cast you in a movie. Your mother had a thousand fits.” Suddenly Lucy notices the young boy’s dad expression. “Brooklyn you OK?”

“It’s just I miss him.”

“I do too. I use to take him and your Uncle Sam to Europe. They were the best of friends. I remember once, I had this friend who had a castle, and your father got lost. We looked everywhere. I actually started to get worried.”

“Where was he?”

“Up in the attic hiding. They were playing Hide and Go Seek and your daddy won.”

Jay looks on and Adrian takes his hand. Lucy hugs Brooklyn.

In the company offices, Dia says to Sam, “Kathryn Wentworth has returned to Switzerland. Apparently John Ross brought to her attention that Miao Yi killed several people in retaliation to loosing Demeter. She kinda freaked out and walked away.”

“No stomach for the kinds of people she’s dug herself in with.”

“Her son, Robert Wentworth has taken her place. Miao Yi attempted to buy them out of Ewing Industries, part cash, part intimidation.”

“And?”

“Can’t sell. The Ewing’s have the first right to purchase.”

“I’ll be damned. They cover all their bases.”

“That they do.”

Amelia confronts her father on his yacht, docked at the club. “What brings you aboard?” he asks.

“I’ve been concerned about what happened with Bing and Bishop, the fall out it initially had on my campaign.”

“Initially?”

“Yes. Sam has managed to spin it so he looks like some sort of Lee Iacocca. Which makes me look good. So it’s turning out as a positive. No thanks to you.”

“What do I have to do with any of this?”

“You and this merger you had to put together. Sam tells me you’re working with Miao Yi to return to the three way split of the company and get your hands on Bing with Miao Yi getting Demeter.”

“I’m just a board member, thanks to your husband. I’m not working on anything.”

“Well I spoke to the rest of the family. We’re all concerned you risked way to much in this game of yours.”

“You’re talking behind my back?”

“You’re making deals with Miao Yi behind everyone else’s back.”

“Bing has the potential to make me a great deal of money. Keeping the three companies together, especially after the fiasco of your husband’s family with Bishop, is suppressing the share value.”

“We already have a great deal of money. The Bishop family isn’t thrilled with you. And neither is our own family. Frankly there are some that want to distance themselves from you and Miao Yi.”

“Are you one of them?”

“The potential fall out to my political career doesn’t set well with me.”

“You’re mistaken to think that any real power comes with the White House.”

“No I’m very clear about what the White House offers me. You’re mistaken about where power comes from. It certainly isn’t in alliances with the Chinese. Nor the Russians.”

“Why bring you the Russians?”

“I’ve been informed you’re playing all sides of this fence.”

“You really think real power comes from the Ewing’s? You’ll be their lap dog.”

“Real power comes from mutual benefit. Alliances with the Ewing’s, the Bings, the Bishops . . . the Rashid’s.”

“What about the Rashid’s”

“They want you to retire and I must say I agree.”

“And if I don’t agree?”

“The family’s decided to retire you. You’ll be replaced on the boards of BingBishop and the Kellogg Fund. Enjoy life. I’ll guarantee you a chapter in my biography.”

“And that’s it?”

“I’m your closest living relative. You want to see what advocating for the housing of the mentally ill can do for my popularity?”

Lisa holds Ryan in bed as he tells her, “It’s just coming from every direction. The lawyers say they can keep pushing back criminal charges but the civil cases are piling up. Most of my money’s tied up in family trusts, so there’s not much to go after, still.”

“I’m so sorry Ryan. I know how much you wanted this deal to go through.”

“Actually at this point, Sam’s efforts to take the company private are driving up the share price. He’s got an awful lot of hype behind him. There’s talks about using him in an advertising campaign.”

“See, it’s gonna work out. You’re probably only talking house arrest for a short time, right?”

“It’s just nothing turned out the way I planned and Jonathon is gone. I just don’t . . .” Ryan chokes up. “And I think of Ian all the time. I wish he’d seen me pull it off. He’d have been impressed.”

Lisa snuggles against his chest. “Oh Ryan. I’m so sorry.”

Jay and Adrian play in the pool together. What begins as two young men roughhousing becomes the embrace of two lovers. Kissing they sink to the bottom.

At the main house Liang shows the police in to talk to Amelia in the living room. They’re questioning her about why a campaign intern would have her personal phone number in his phone. “He worked for me. Is that so unusual to share phone number’s with the people you work with?”

“No. But he certainly called you a lot. And at odd times. Beyond office hours.”

“Campaigns run at all hours. He was passionate about politics. He helped me with a fresh, young perspective on the issues.”

“All of his calls preceded by a text asking can he call. You respond either yes or no. And no’s are followed by a time, a time which then shows up as another call asking to call and a yes response from you. Does everyone who calls you ask for permission?”

“Most. I’m a very busy person.”

“Do he talk about anything personal?”

“Some issues were personal.“

“So you’d say you had a personal relationship?”

“I’m not sure I would say that. Politics comes from a very personal place in how we relate to the issues. It’s not all grand theory.”

“He had two books with inscriptions. He wrote them in. They said you gave them to him and the dates.”

“The Art of War and The Wealth of Nations. I give them to a great many people. Are you trying to say something inappropriate occurred between the two of us?”

“He was a handsome young man who had a great many sexual conquests among your campaign workers.”

“That doesn’t mean I was one of them.”

“No but we have to follow all leads.”

“Of course.”

“Well thank you for cooperating.”

“Of course. Anytime. Is there anything else?”

“No. I guess that’ll be all. Well, unless you know something about the watch he wore.”

“Watch?” She questioned with our batting an eye.”

“You didn’t notice the watch?”

“No I’m afraid not.”

“There weren’t many people in his life who could afford such a thing. We’ve traced it to New York City where it was discretely purchased. For cash.”

“Are you asking me if I gave the watch to him?”

“No. I’m just stating you’re the only one surrounding him that I would say has access to that kind of cash.”

“Did the sales person’s description of the person who bought it sound anything like me?”

“No even remotely.”

“Well than.”

“Well than,” the investigator repeats.

Amelia shows him out.

Edgar walks into the salon of his yacht, late in the evening, and finds Alya sitting there, waiting. Calmly he says, “I’ve been expecting you.”

“I hear you’re retired.”

“Something like that.”

“I’m suppose to be satisfied with your being shunted off to the side.”

“I suppose I wouldn’t be either, if Amelia were dead, even though right now I’m not her favorite person.”

“I want Miao Yi. And I want your help to get him.”

“He’s on a very short list of people to become the Paramount Leader of China. I don’t see it as possible to do what you want.”

“Make it possible.”

“Some things are beyond us.”

“Somethings are worth dying for.”

“Miao Yi has orchestrated the theft of American technology. He is seen as having put China in play against the United States with these key advances. Oil and gas prices will collapse, and permanently; make no mistake, the technologies held by the Americans and the Chinese are about to lead to a cataclysmic shift. Miao is very much wanted on both sides of this game whether he knows it or not.”

“The Americans support him?”

“Very much so. He thinks he can handle them, but they’re putting him in play as their operative.”

“Really?”

“Of course. If he weren’t of use to us, they’d just put a bullet in his head.”

“That’s what I’d like to see.”

“You night just get your wish, sooner than later.”

Lucy hosts a late night gathering on the terrace of Highlands. Everyone gathers around a fire in a copper tray, morsels on trays passed around, everyone with a drink in their hands. Liang, Sam and Amelia, Jay and Adrian, Ryan and Alya, Dia-Li and Lisa and Margret. Jay regales them with stories of Texas particularly his grandfathers’ legendary. “Most of it’s just exaggeration of course.”

Lucy says, “I don’t know about that.”

Margret says, “My momma had a thing of two to say about JR.”

Adrian says, “Few of us get to walk away from life with clean hands, no matter how much we want to pretend.”

Lisa says, “I’d have like to have seen your grandfather meet my grandmother’s mother. She could give any man a run for his money.”

Liang says, “My Great Uncle Chao-Li spoke highly of her.”

Episode 4

Jay and Adrian sit up in bed, in the seaside cottage overlooking the riding sun. Adrian checks his phone and reads the headlines. Jay leans over and kisses him good morning. There’s fresh light blue paint on the walls, intricate lacy, white trim for crown moulding, almost a femininity to the room and streaks of orange coming through the large window. There’s peace and birds chirping. Jay says, “Echo, what’s the weather like today?” and the computer voice speaks of a perfect day, soft and comfortable.

Out on her terrace Lucy has breakfast with Brooklyn. Liang is the first to join them, making small talk about going sailing on the windmill while at the buffet. Lucy suggested Brooklyn join him. Sam and Amelia and their three children join next in a bit of commotion.

Ryan stands out on the porch of his house sipping coffee, deep in contemplation when Alyn walks out in her silk robe, flowing around her from the gentle sea breeze. Not a word is shared between the two as she sits at a table and a servant places a plate in front of her.

Inside their lake side home Dia sits at his desk going over financial reports in his study when Lisa walks in. “Have you been at this all night.”

Looking out there window and noticing the rising sun for the first time he answers, “Yes, I suppose I have.”

“Is it really that important?”

“Yes. Yes it is. One of the nation’s biggest businesses is being taken private just long enough to then turn around and reissue stock it what should be biggest IPO ever. We’ve got to dot every i and cross every t. Perfect.”

“And you’re really putting Sam in charge?”

“No. No. Henry Bishop is going to retire and Sam will take his place as non-executive chairman. We’re on the hunt for the right person to run the company.”

“And that wasn’t Sam’s Uncle Ryan?”

“Certainly not. Most families don’t work that way. Successive generations aren’t suited to run the enterprises their forebears created. Liam Riebmann was more lucky than brilliant at investing in Bishop Chemical. It sort of fell in his lap when a deal he put together, when he was at the Kellogg Fund, fell apart.”

“The Chi family being an exception.”

“No, most of my family doesn’t even bother at business. Like the Channing’s. Your Uncle Richard, his mother, the rest of you just enjoy the largesse of those who have been competent.”

“His fortune for us.”

“Yes certainly. Some put up the money. Some do all the work. Some are all about the panache. That’s what Sam is good at, not the work . . . the presentation. Sam was lucky, those before him did a lot of the work, raised a lot of the money.”

“So Sam’s just a showman?”

“Not just any showman, he’ll be the husband of the President of the United States someday, on an impressive stage, with a perfectly choreographed routine. An American hero.”

“Of what?”

“Whatever.”

“And Ryan?”

“Retired.” Dia takes a pause and then says, “Don’t make the mistake of thinking I’m blind. I’ve know about the two of you for a long time. But I can tell you, soon, very soon, that’ll come to an end, won’t it?” Dia walks out of her room.

Sam walks through the offices of BingBishop, along his way congratulated on successfully taking the company private. He enters his office alone and shuts the door. Looking around at the enormous space and the large windows at the Detroit skyline before triumphantly taking his seat, feeling the solid wood of the desk.

A police detective meets with a prosecutor. “He’s clearly talking about an affair with Amelia Rosemont and two witnesses confirmed the affair.”

“They’re not witnesses, they’re hearsay from a dead man. A dead man they’d both been sleeping with at the same time they accuse Amelia Rosemont of sleeping with him. You know this doesn’t do me any good. I get it’s your only motive, but it doesn’t mean she’s guilty and I certainly am not going to try and prove she is based on it. You’re missing any evidence at all. I’m sorry you believe she’s getting away with it. Someone certainly has.”

Margret leads a team meeting with Amelia in attendance. She ushers everyone but Amelia out of the room, closes the door and turns to her. “We both know facts are irrelevant anymore.”

“Maybe you a stupid part of this country that’s true.”

“That stupid part is this country. Read Hofstadter’s work on American Anti-intellectuals. The nation hates doctors and lawyers, engineers and accountants, anyone with an education. So take truth and set it aside. The others are spoon feed a version of the truth their team wants them to hear.”

“Not everyone.”

“No but those so-called independents aren’t much better.”

“I didn’t murder that boy.”

“But the stories are running wild. Now I’m hearing about your brother.”

“I’m not responsible for what he does.”

“Again truth doesn’t mean much. Eddy has a hell of a past. Kind of a Teddy Kennedy story.”

“I don’t know if he’s responsible for that girls death or not. I hardly have anything to do with him.”

“Again I’m not interested in logic. This story about him makes it look like your family of all a bunch of murders who get away with it because of your daddy’s wealth. That story plays out and you’re sunk.”

“Because a guy can be a pervert and talk about sex with his daughter and pay off porn stars, but a woman can’t.”

“You got it.”

Lucy welcomes a most beautiful black young man to Highlands. “Eddy Rosemont. I haven’t see you in years. How are you?”

“Doing well Lucy. I came as soon as I got your message.”

“Thank you. Come out onto the terrace.”

“Not up yo your room?”

“That was a long time ago.”

“Between marriages.”

“Something like that. I didn’t call you here for that. I’m concerned about Amelia. There’s concern you’re situation with that girl will come out in her campaign.”

“What situation?”

“The girl you killed.”

“I didn’t kill anyone.”

“Lie to someone else. You might have been drunk but she died and you killed her.”

Out on the patio Lucy sits down with Eddy. “No disclosure agreements aren’t going to protect you in this, if it comes out in the campaign, so drop that crap. The family will need more money.”

“I told you, we settled out of court.”

“And I told you that’s civil, not criminal. It’s not to late to press charges against you.”

“You can only be tried once.”

“Since you weren’t the first time that won’t be a problem. What will be a problem is her family talking.”

“And I told you, they can’t.”

“And I told you those agreements aren’t going to hold up if all this cones out in a high stakes senate race. So you and your dad need to revisit and right out some more checks.”

“I’m not going to pay for this the rest of my life.”

“Yes you are. And if you don’t take care of things proactively, I’m going to handle it. Which means you go down and your sister holds a press conference distancing herself from you, calling for justice.”

“You’re threatening me!”

“I’m informing you. I use to be a lot like you. A stupid kid. Took me a long time to put my past behind me and grow up. Kids threaten Eddy. I don’t. I’m not. I’m trying to help you. If you don’t want my help . . . well. I’m not going to let you hurt Amelia’s chances at getting elected. She’s Sam’s wife. That’s all you need to concern yourself with.”

Edgar “Eddy” Rosemont III

A television news anchor says, “Billionaire Edgar Rosemont has renounced his American citizenship and taken up citizenship in the Cayman Islands. The country, a British Overseas Territory, levies no income or corporate taxes. Rosemont an heir to his family’s share of the Kellogg Fund, is a major investor in BingBishop Chemical and owns Rosemont Management, one of the best known of the so-called vulture funds. The strategy of vulture funds is to buy government debt at sharply reduced prices when weak governments are in crisis, and eventually force these governments to pay the full amount of the debt. He is also the father of Senate candidate from Michigan, Amelia Rosemont.”

Sorry this is short, I’m having a hard time finding time for writing. 2 more episodes to a finale - cliff hanger.

Interesting plot twist with the brother who is the black sheep of the family. I wonder what the circumstances are around the girl that died when Eddy went out with her?
Since you mentioned Teddy Kennedy I am guessing there's some sort of accident.

Episode 5

Adrian wakes up to an empty bed. He roles over to find a note on Adrian’s pillow. He starts to cry.

Ryan faces the jury, who’s chairman reads off each account and says “We the Jury find you guilty.”

Ryan sits down after the last one. His lawyer says, “We’ll begin the appeal.” He then turns and says to x as mother lawyer on his team, “I’ve never seen something happen so fast.”

The judge announces the sentencing date.

Jay walks out onto the terrace behind highlands where Lucy has lunch with the kids, Brooklyn, Jacqueline, Albert and Calvin. “Sam and Amelia off campaign?”

“All over the state,” Lucy replies. “And how are you?”

“I’m doing OK.”

“Where’s Adrian?”

“He Won’t be coming to lunch. He had something to do. Not sure when he’ll be back.”

“Oh.”

Liang strpd our and asks, “Something for Lunch?”

“No thank you, Liang.”

“Everything alright?”

Lucy says, “Adrian had to leave. Had done stuff to do.”

“Oh I see. Jay. If you’re not hungry, why don’t you join me for some exercise?”

“Yeah sure. Why not?”

As they walk back into the house Eddy walks out. Jay says, “Eddy?”

Eddy pauses and appears to know him right away, then without thought grabs him and hugs him. “Jay? Jay Ewing?” Suddenly, his face lit up, turns quickly turns sober and he jets go of him. Stepping back he says, “I did know you were here. How have you been?”

“Terrific. And you? You look great.”

“I’m doing pretty good. Yes Lucy called on me to visit for a bit. Little too much partying. I needed a break.”

“Yeah you always knew how to have good time. No girl with you?”

“Nope. Single for the time being.”

“Sure that won’t last long. Say join us. Liang’s going to go through some routines with me.”

“Oh I don’t know. Well, sure. Why not?”

Lucy watches with a perplexed look.

The three go through various yoga stretches in the yard, a patch of grass filled with sunlight, in their underwear.

Lisa walks into Ryan’s house near Highlands to find him sitting alone, staring out at the lake. “Are you OK? You didn’t answer me.”

Without looking at her he says, “Just been thinking.”

“About going to prison?”

“No. About you. You’re probably the only person left in the world that cares about me. And my existence makes your life impossible, with your husband, with your children.”

“No that’s not true. Dia and I have been distant for a long time. Getting to know you have been the only thing that’s kept me going.”

“It’s got to stop Lisa. It does.”

“You don’t understand. You saved me Ryan. I love you.”

“And I love you, but not in the way you deserve.”

“I don’t care. It’s more than Dia loves me.”

“That’s not true.”

“It is!”

“Lisa go to him. Fix your marriage.”

“No. I’m staying with you. You’ll fight this.”

“I’m not fighting it. So please go.”

“You’ve got to fight it.”

“Will you just go.”

“I love you.”

“Well I don’t love you.”

Lisa runs out of the house.

Jay and Eddy walk away toward an overlook of Lake Huron talking about the old days and how Jay looked up to Eddy, idolized him even. Eddy says I don’t know about that. Jay kisses his lips softly. Eddie opens his mouth. After just a few unexpected moments Eddy pulls back a d says “Don’t do that.”

“Why not?”

“I’m not into that. You are?”

“I had this mad crush on you and right now I don’t really want to be alone and so . . . Well I thought I’d take a chance.”

“I guess I’m flattered. It’s just I’m not.”

“I get it. Sorry.”

“No it’s ok. I mean you’re you?” Eddy looks at him so tenderly as if studying him. “And I’m me. And I’m not. And I guess you are.”

“I don’t define myself.”

“Define yourself?”

“As straight or gay or what ever. I’m just me.”

Eddy kisses Jay. This time with less softness and more passion. His hands exploding Jays body as his tongue enters his mouth. Eddy then pulls away. “Oh shit. What the f . . . . .”

“You OK?”

“I don’t want to do this.”

“OK. Then we don’t do it.”

“Why’d you do that?”

“I told you. I had a crush on you and I don’t want to be alone right now.”

“So you just wanna do stuff for me. You know?”

“No. Never mind.”

“No it’s OK. I’m not judging you. I mean if you want to a mouths a mouth man.”

“Really? That’s what you got to say to me? Piss off Eddy.”

“What?”

“I tell you I don’t wanna be alone and you tell me sure, you’ll use me.”

“Well sorry man. I’m not that way.”

“What way Eddy. What way aren’t you?”

“You’re way.”

“My way. What I got a patten on my own way of sex?”

“No. Of course not. But you know. People like you.”

“Let’s just forget about this. Let’s just chalk it up to I was hurting and did something stupid. OK.”

“OK.”

“No worries. I won’t make that mistake again.” Jay turns and looks out at the water, angry as he clutched the railing.

Eddy looks at him behind. He looks pained. He reaches out and rubes Jay’s butt. To his back he says, “If I tell you, you’re cute, will it be our secret?”

“Yeah sure. No body needs to know your business.”

“You’re cute,” Eddy says, continuing to rub his clothed butt.

“Thank you.”

“What if I asked you to show me.”

“Show you?”

“How to be used like that.”

Jay turns around to face him. Eddy looks down. “Serious?”

“Maybe.”

Jay puts his hands on Eddy’s shoulders and pushes him to his knees.

Lucy sits telling Brooklyn all about Europe she’s going to show him. “So many beautiful places. The people are so content. A content you can’t find here. Enough is never enough. Do you know what I mean?”

“No I don’t.”

“You’ll see I promise. Just know enough is enough for me. You don’t ever have to do anything for my attention.” Lucy hugs him.

Eddy and Jay get dressed in the cottage bedroom. Eddy seems awkward. Finally he speaks, “Are you OK?”

“Yeah. I’m great. I’ve spent my whole life wanting to do that.”

“Really? So it was good?”

“Of course.” Jay wraps his arms around him from behind. “You know I care about you, right? I don’t want this to be awkward. I also don’t want you to be ashamed.”

“No I’m good.”

“Eddy you said you love me. A few times.”

“OK now I feel awkward.”

“No. Don’t. Nothing changes between us. We’re still old friends. And if you want to do this again, I’d love to. And you should know, I love you too.” He kisses his back and let’s go. Jay pulls on his shirt. “So just friends.”

Eddy takes him in his arms, “Just friends,” and kisses him passionately.

Amelia gives a speach about brining money back to Michigan for National parks and freeways and transit. “We’ve got the busiest boarder with Canada and they need to respect that. Sure security is important but then hire more people to facilitate that crossing. Or better yet, work with Canada so we don’t have to worry about the borders in between.”

In the debate her opponent replies, “So just open the boarder with Canada. That’s what you get, soft on crime and violence, laid back on security leaving Michigan as the gateway for anyone who wants to get us, in our public gatherings, at your families, our children. No way. The American people deserve better than that. That’s why I backed the wall where America doesn’t have the massive waterway Michigan is fortunate to have, and I backed enhance monitoring of that waterway.”

“What you’re doing is shutting off America from the rest of the world. You’ve backed limits to visas and limits to allow America’s to travel to other countries, including Canada.”

Laughing, “Of course I have. What sane person wants to see anything beyond our borders. We have everything right here at home. And we certainly don’t need foreigners visiting.”

“Closing off America.”

“Damn right.”

Sailing on a boat in the middle of Lake Huron, Jay says, “You remember all the times I was over to hang out with your brother?”

“Yeah. All the time it seemed. At least when you were in New York.”

“It was because I wanted to see you. I didn’t get it at first, but I had this crazy crush on you. And you were such an exhibitionist.”

“I hoped you’d notice.”

“Did you really?” Jay blushes. “Oh I did. Believe me I did.”

Ryan stands in the court room listening to the sentencing of one charge after another as he heard the rest of his life disappear before him. His lawyer assuring him that he’ll postpone this the rest of his life. Ryan says, “Why bother? It cost me my son. I don’t really care to postpone anything.”

Miao walks into his penthouse apartment in Shanghai, off the elevator and through the rooms with a commanding view, through his bedroom to a massive tub. He strips and lowers himself into the water. Looking out he enjoys the view over the city.

From outside the window explodes raining glass down on hand people below.

Alya watches has her bags are packed and carried one by one out of the house. An assistant hands her a phone. “Yes . . . Yes, I’d agree were even now . . . Good and thank you. What ever you’ve got planned it fine with me. Just leave Sam and his children out of it and we’ll get along just fine.” She hands the phone back and walks out of the room, following her train of luggage.
