David Ames (Dominic Copeland) mentioned that on his interview with Lorraine last Tuesday. David Ames had been in Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead. Hugh Quarshie, who had played Ric Griffin from 2001-20, (and reappeared in the finale) said that his friends on the show told him that they were only told of the cancellation on the very day it was announced to the press. Bob Barrett (who had guested in both Casualty and Holby City before getting cast as Sacha Levy in Holby City, making a major crossover appearance in 2019 to Casualty, to mark Holby City’s twentieth birthday) also said that it came as a surprise. He was on BBC Breakfast last week. The story is also in the Mirror.
But I did see one of the actors interviewed on Lorraine a few weeks ago and he explained that he had a conversation with Russel T Davies who had said normally actors and crew get a vibe or hear a show will end but in this case there was nothing, it came as a complete shock to everyone.
So I can believe people were angry about it and unhappy about the email from the BBC which apparently told them to enjoy the break. Not really what you say to people losing their jobs.
But I don't think they will be able to sue unless some contractual issue was violated.
