This was one of my favorite shows growing up. Me and my mom used to watch it together religiously. I used to own the whole series on DVD, but lost it in a move.
I recently started binge watching it on Peacock. Haven't seen it in years and this time I am watching with my husband and our 25 year old child, neither of whom have ever seen it before. They both love it almost as much as I do.
For those that don't know, the series is based on the book "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets" by David Simon. Interestingly, "The Wire" is based on the same book.
The series follows a squad of homicide detectives in Baltimore as they try (and often fail) to solve murders.
Ned Beatty was the biggest "star" in the original cast, but Andre Braugher as Frank Pembleton ended up being the real "star" of the show. The original cast also includes a young Melissa Leo, long before her triumphant, Oscar winning career on the big screen. The character of John Munch (Richard Beltzer) of "Law and Order: SVU" originated on "Homicide."
For those of you who like police shows, I highly recommend giving "Homicide" a try. It is one of the best written and well acted series I have ever watched.
