I remember David Jacobs saying that he wished the TNT series all the best, but was never consulted when it was revived. But he did say that he would have done it very differently - having the sons the other way around - Christopher was the JR character and John Ross as the Bobby character - which would certainly have given rise to better family conflict.
I doubt we'll see Dallas again too, but to me TNT just wasn't Dallas.
Dallas was about The Ewings vs The Barnes, it had fantastic characters that they interacted with throughout it's run, wonderfully rounded characters who popped up here and there and really added to the substance of the show.
When TNT took over they took the Ewings off center stage, they redesigned their house so there wasn't even a feel of familiarity about it, they invaded the house with people who were servants, who treated as their own home. They introduced relationships that were just invented and had no history in the show and, of course, they gave Cliff Barnes a completely new persona.
What TNT failed to realise was what made Dallas so successful - Dallas was Character led, it had just as much lightness as it had shade. People tuned in because they cared for the characters and all stories resolved around The Ewings, Barnes and Ewing Oil.
If Dallas were ever to come back, they need to forget the TNT series, bring it back with the Southfork we know and love, fill it with everyone that TNT failed to establish - Lucas, Margaret, etc. Have Bobby & Sue Ellen as the older family members, with John Ross as the good son and Christopher as the bad son.
Lucy would be there, with her children, Ray would be back on his own ranch...with his relationship with Donna and Margaret ongoing. Dallas was about Family and family feuds, not Mexican drug cartels and orgies.
Bring it back, but PLEASE honour it's past respectfully.
