Did they specify how long Jock and Amanda were married for and why they didn't have any children. Would have made a more interesting storyline that they did and was given up for adoption and he/she claimed a stake in Ewing Oil rather than Jaime
I always thought that a Jock/Amanda sonor daughter would appear, somehow.
It could have led to some interesting stories, certainly better than anything in seasons 13 and 14

That's an interesting thought. It would have been a better tie-in to the established past so they wouldn't have had to invent a brother we'd never heard of.

Just how would J.R. have coped had there been another offspring, someone older than him? Perhaps such a storyline would have been better in the twilight years, when storylines were more like quicksand. However an estranged son or daughter (preferably the latter) would have been an interesting alternative to the potential new owners of Ewing Oil, in season 7 (DVD-8).

Amanda Lewis Ewing.

Jock gives J.R. a lecture on being a husband and parenting, (a scene from season 2; DVD-3, 1979-'80):

"Something I should’ve said a long time ago. I never did begrudge you boys having a good time, hell I always did! But there comes a time and a place when the fun stops and you start facing up to your responsibilities J.R. You've always had that place in business but not at home, I just could never understand why not. Well from now on I'll see to it you stay on the right side of enjoying yourself. I want Sue Ellen happy to be your wife and I want my grandson proud that you're his Father. I want him alive and healthy, proud to be a Ewing. That's the way it's got to be J.R."

Children/illegitimate children or close relatives of a number of characters could (and should) have been used to introduce new characters and still having a tie to show's rich history.
Eg. the following characters
Herbert Wentworth
Garrison Ewing
Sam Culver
Donn's parents
and especially Amanda.

Have relatives of her declaring her marriage to Jock intact - asking for Southfork and EwingOil. If it needs to be you can still bring on "Uncle Jason's" children.

Amanda would be tough totie to the present as they wrote her into a corner from day one. I think it would have been completely plausible and interesting if Garrison had a daughter no one knew about. A claim to Southfork and heavy involvement for Miss Ellie.

I did it in my fanfic Ewing Empire, and she was played by Jessica Lange! She had been adopted by Harv Smithfield after her mother died giving birth to her and her father was presumed drawn. And she was "almost" canon: she was the wife of John Baxter, and daughter to Harv, mentioned in Season 6 episode "Where There´s a Will". In my fanfic she is called Barbara (in honor of BBG) Harriet (the name given on "Dallas") Baxter, later Southworth, and was a lawyer too.

I like things like this. Where they don't just come out of left field. Ray's story felt totally organic to me and I loved that he was most like Jock of all the Ewing boys. gave it a nice twist.
