EastEnders confirms new boss as Kate Oates takes over from John Yorke in top job


EastEnders, Casualty and Holby City are all getting a new boss, with Kate Oates joining as senior executive producer for all three shows.

The former Emmerdale and Coronation Street boss will be taking over the Walford soap from John Yorke – who stepped in to run EastEnders on a temporary basis last year.

Speaking about her new appointment, Kate said: "Working across EastEnders, Casualty and Holby City is an amazing opportunity for me to have creative input into three of the UK's leading dramas.

"I'm excited about meeting the teams and talent behind each show and can't wait to get stuck in and tell some unmissable stories."

Kate will report in to BBC Studios' Head of Continuing Drama Series Oliver Kent, and begins her role in October.

Mark Linsey, CCO of BBC Studios, said: "Kate is a dynamic, passionate and creative storyteller and I couldn't be more thrilled that she's joining BBC Studios to work with our fantastic teams at EastEnders, Holby City and Casualty.

"At EastEnders, she will be taking the baton from John Yorke, who stepped in to run the show on a temporary basis in June 2017. I'd like to personally thank him for the great job he's done during this interim period.

"John will continue to work together with Kate to ensure a smooth handover until the end of the year, and we will be announcing his next role with us in the coming weeks."

Kate is coming home to the BBC, many moons ago she was a producer on the Archers.

I'm looking forward to this, I think she may just be what the show needs. The ITV soaps have become a lot more heightened compared to Enders, which has had a rather grounded few years.

I liked her on Emmerdale, but on Corrie it did become dark and depressing and the Pat Phelan storyline dragged on way longer than it should have done, and that's the last thing EE needs right now as ita already in that mode! It needs to be faster and fresh and not too dark.

Usually it is the ones who do three or more killings in separate incidents. In 2016, at one point there were four of those hanging about in Hollyoaks at the same time, not counting the other occasional or one-off killers who live there. Sometimes they tried to bump each other off. Jeff Rawle said that part of the attraction of playing serial killer Silas Blissett on Hollyoaks was that he had never ever played a murderer before. Silas killed five characters and attempted to murder another five but came unstuck when he unintentionally murdered his own daughter, when he was trying to murder someone else. Although he later popped back, posing as Mr E. Mann and murdered the Gloved Hand serial killer, who had been busy murdering seven characters with potassium chloride injections. Silas deemed her a “slut” and said that her children would be better off without her. So he made sure of it. Cameron Campbell was living there then and he bumped off eight people. So was schoolgirl Nico Blake, who suffocated her grandfather (biological father to both her parents, thanks to their unintentional incest when they didn’t know that they were brother and sister), killed her mother’s lover on his wedding day and bumped off her stepsister. And trying to bump off some others, such as with poisoned aftershave and poisoned orange juice. Warren Fox is more of an occasional murderer, having murdered five characters, including a man who had just saved his life, his pregnant (with his baby) fiancée, her ex-husband and a couple of other characters. And attempting to murder others.

Think it is the modus operandi too. Silas Blissett treats his murders as providing a society cleansing service by bumping off women he deems to have loose morals. After Rae Wilson told Silas that she intended to use men for casual flings in the future, Silas beat her over the head and strangled her in an alley, then placed her body in the boot and framed multiple murderer Brendan Brady (who murdered his own grandmother, kicked murderer Simon Walker in front of an oncoming train and whose sister shot their father dead) for it. Although Silas is also a kind grandfather.

Toby Mills on Hollyoaks had a murder count of over around a dozen blonde women. After killing Roxy and then arguing with and convincing himself that he is really good, he went on a killing spree of at least another 11 blonde women. And he also killed his mother when he shoved her down the stairs. He did try to stop killing by trying to get married. It all came to an end when he was pushed off a roof and then got hit by a car and died.

While Cameron Campbell would just off people who got in his way or were on to him. Or sort of accidentally be directly responsible for their deaths. And he would swing between nice and a very nasty temper. His killings included his ex, his brother and his wife’s parents. As well as causing the events when Joe Roscoe fell to his death from a Ferris wheel, when he tried to burn serial killer schoolgirl Nico Blake (who murdered her grandfather, killed her stepsister, stabbed her mother’s murdering lover to death on his wedding day and was eventually killed by her mother with her grandfather’s award). Nico was thought to be dead but reappeared around eighteen months later (the situation inadvertently allowing multiple murderer Warren Fox to stage his second successful kidnap of one of his babies from the hospital and away from their mother in less than a year) explaining that a lookalike who had burned and been cremated. Cameron tried to drown his brother-in-law but when this failed, he got him hooked on crystal meths instead.

Well, loveable barmaid and children’s nanny Breda McQueen, mother to Goldie and Sylver McQueen, was revealed as a serial killer in last night’s one hour episode of Hollyoaks. With some of her victims, she has taken their buttons and sewn them on to toys that she has given to child descendants of those she has terminated. In regard to her MO, she mentioned deadbeat dads. Carl was a grandfather too, though but had kidnapped Breda’s daughter.


Breda murdered Carl Costello and multiple murderer abusive controlling gangster Glenn Donovan (who recently murdered his own eldest son). Last night, Breda murdered millionaire ex-porn star Russ Owen, who earlier that day had just remarried her first cousin once removed, Mercedes McQueen (Mercedes’ sixth wedding day). Russ had just got Mercedes’ second cousin, Goldie McQueen, pregnant and was trying to get the baby aborted. While Mercedes slept with her second cousin Sylver McQueen, who recently was released from prison after beating his half-sister’s father to death. Mercedes’ first wedding to Russ was scuppered on her wedding day when the news of her sleeping with multiple murderer bad boy Warren Fox on her hen night was blurted out at the church by the same Louise Summers who was later murdered by her fiancé Warren Fox on their wedding day after she found about Warren’s pre-wedding infidelity with their wedding planner, Mandy Richardson. Mercedes also bumped off her husband, evil murderer Dr Browning but fortunately DI Lomax turned a blind eye to it. DI Lomax later got bumped off by her son-in-law, Cameron Campbell.
