I've not long purchased the complete series boxset.

I didn't realize just how villainous Doctor Smith was at the beginning of the series.

It's certainly an interesting show but not a patch on Doctor Who from the same era. :)

The first season is sooooooooo very different -- B&W (as the 1965/66 season was the last year an American primetime show could be broadcast in B&W) and more-or-less legit sci-fi for television. After that, as everyone seems to recognize, the show dropped into garish color camp-shlock with the robot ("Warning... warning... aliens approaching!!) and that special-guest-star queen ("Ohhhhh, the pain, the pain...!") at the center, all apocalyptically underscored rather niftily by a young "Johnny" Williams (who uses lots of bells to convey looming catastrophe).

Guy Williams always looks to me a little like JFK (obviously resurrected to continue his series TV career), June Lockhart (isn't she still alive today, at 126??) and Billy Mumy proves yet again that Moon in Capricorns make the best child actors (when they're not the worst, simpering like Shalane McCall -- which explains Victoria's shift from simpering crap actress to excellent actress circa 1982, and a birth certificate perpetually rolling forward to make her "twelve" when DALLAS started).

I've had LOST IN SPACE in my Amazon shopping cart for quite some time. I've included it in my Christmas wish lists this year, so maybe somebody will buy it for me. I put shows like this on my birthday and Christmas lists so it'll be more of a "surprise" if anyone buys it for me. And because if someone else doesn't buy it for me, then it'll most likely never get bought.

I never saw this the first time around so it's possible that I've never seen the black and white episodes. The colour ones were repeated during children's viewing time and they belonged there.

I'll never forget the episode in which Will is transported to a planet where there's a Scottish guy playing the bagpipes. There was this hairy monster that rose out of a pond and made this shrieking, wailing sound. As a wee lad I thought it was the most terrifying thing ever!

Maybe it was Nessie, the Loch Ness monster! :)
