UK Series No Return

This four-part drama has started well, and we were hooked with the first episode and the horrors that can happen when you're visiting a different country to your own.


Everything starts with the usual 'Brits on their annual family holiday' capers, and then it takes a dark twist when the eldest son (16 yrs) is arrested for sexual abuse.



He says it was consensual, and it's certainly looking like that from what we have seen, though that isn't much. Reading between the lines, I feel the Spanish boy was seen or had second thoughts and turned it into a sexual assault. I think he is frightened and hiding in the closet. The best way to deal with this in his eyes is to say he was assaulted. This happening in Turkey highlights the prejudices around LGBT, and no matter what the truth is, they will punish the young lad accused, no matter what.


Of course, I could be wrong. I'm going by what I've seen so far.

I enjoyed the series but felt it should have concentrated far more on the criminal case rather than the relationships between the sisters/in-laws. I think by moving the focus around it made the criminal aspect of it a kind of background going on rather than it having the full focus, where it could really have ramped up the peril and the drama.

But overall it was a different kind of drama and tackled a subject rarely approached by TV series.

In the second episode, I wasn't interested in her sister's night with the entertainment guy and was hoping that it wouldn't be focused on anymore. The concept is brilliant and, as you mentioned, isn't something that gets much attention, so to dilute it with things going on outside the main story doesn't do the proper justice. Sometimes I find that different stories like this in a drama can ruin it somewhat.

It was only four episodes, and yet took a while to finish it. The concept was great but the content was pretty poor. I really was not interested in the goings-on with her sister. While I enjoyed the ending, I wasn't convinced it was all that realistic.
