Last night I finally watched "Play Misty for Me", more because I wanted to see a pre-Knots Donna Mills than because I like Mr. Eastwood, who I don´t. Well, it was exactly what I was expecting for, for good or bad. The following trailer spoils the plot, even showing the final scene! So watch it at your own risk...

So you haven´t seen the movie either, 50 years after it was released? So stop reading because I will spoil it.
I started this thread mainly to know what everybody here thinks about it. From beginning to end I had the feeling that the action was not happening in Carmel (the town Clint became mayor later on), but in Knots Landing, or the coast places it was filmed in. I wonder if Granada Hills was too far from Carmel.
Also, there is the undeniable fact that the plot became a template for all thrillers with a psycho in them. And this also takes me to Knots. The Jessica Walter character made me think of that nutjob Jill Bennett, and all the other psychos from Knots (even Karen´s kidnapper).
Of course, there is our dear Donna Mills wearing what looks like an awful hipster wig. She looks gorgeous anyway, and there are a few close shots of her eyes here (those 70s zooms!). The sex scenes (so to say) are very light and tastefully done. I read that rumors wrongly reported about Donna´s fling with Clint, which she denied.

Funny how the Italian poster used Donna´s big pic instead of Jessica´s!

Sadly, Donna has a supporting role in this, and Walter and Eastwood are the absolute stars. Nowadays, the details of the plot are completely predictable, even the ending... While Walter is great, Clint looks as bored and one-note as always, and wastes 15 minutes in documentary scenes of some Jazz Festival that add nothing to the story. A good thing: the use of Roberta Flack´s song "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face", a beautiful but out-of-place theme. At the end, I couldn´t help but think that Clint´s character deserved what he got...
So have you watched this and what did you think about it?

Actor John Larch, who played 3 roles on "Dallas", plays a cop here, and I happened to see him as a good choice to play Wes Parmalee instead of you-know-who. He even winks a la Jim Davis.

Who wouldn't want to have a fling with Clint?
Clint looks as bored and one-note as always
I don't know about "always" but in this movie it looks as if he doesn't even want to be there. Apparently he was also involved with every other aspect of the movie, doesn't seem like an ideal situation for an actor.

Agreed, I didn't get these self-indulgent scenes.

She was very lovely in this movie.

One thing that surprised me of him was how much he looked like Wolverine at the time...
