The honchos at work decided to change our dress code again. Now we have to wear white shirts and dark-colored (non-denim) pants. I HATE wearing white shirts--I did not own a single one (until today--I just got back from shopping for some). Any company worth their salt would provide (pay for) a work uniform if they demand it to be worn, but not them--they expect us to buy them. I hate the way I look in white shirts. Anyone remember Mel Sharples from Alice? That's what I imagine I look like. But hey, at least I don't have to wear bow ties like the managers do. :floor: The folks in corporate ought to wear Dunce Caps.

Absurd to impose a dress code requirement of any stripe on your employees, and then not assist them in compliance thereto!

We are now in the stage of "How can I show my opposition to this dress code while still remaining within the rules?" It's three days in. ;) One of the ladies wore a thin, white shirt with a blue sports bra underneath. I was a bit more discreet, wearing black denim jeans yesterday (they said "no blue jeans"). None of the (four) managers have worn their bow ties yet, and while I can't blame them for not wanting to look like a dweeb, I think that if they try to get away with not adhering to the dress code, then there might be grounds for a mutiny. And just in time for Labor Day!

Although black clothes are smart and slimming, I cannot wear them. I just end up looking like a human cat. Covered.

Here's a random thing we all hate: I renewed my Drivers License today and the photo makes me look like a prison escapee. Nothing you say will ever convince me those DMV people are not outright sadists who purposely set us up to look terrible in our photos.

No, I will not be publishing it. In fact, I may burn it and just buy a bicycle. And to add to the joy, that's my license for the next TEN years. :fp:

Around here, NO ONE empties the dryer but me. It's so annoying. I end up folding at putting away everyone's clothes just so I can dry my own.

My cable-TV box decided to self-destruct last Thursday. In years past, replacing it would have been as simple as dropping it off at the Comcast office and getting a replacement. But since all the Comcast offices have been closed since March, options were limited. I'm sure you've all heard how dreadful Comcast's customer service is. I would call the number, sit on hold for fifteen/twenty minutes being told repeatedly how "important" my call is to them, and then give up. My internet (from the same source) is fine, so I've been watching local news via the web and watching a lot of youtube and other sites.

I was beginning to think that perhaps this whole cable TV thing might be an unnecessary expense that I might could cut out of my life. I had the TV on a lot just for the background noise, and the 24-hour news cycle was driving me up the wall. This past week hasn't been the horror story I would have imagined if someone had told me that I'd be 'unplugged' for a solid week. But for some reason someone at Comcast actually answered the phone this morning and offered to send me a new cable box via UPS within a day or two (and I send back the broken one). Could it be that they sensed I was about to break the habit ("cut the cord") and decided they had to reel me back in? I dunno, but just because I will have cable again in a few days doesn't mean I have to turn it on all the time.

Hopefully they meant "blue" as in the color (what you said would seem to imply thereto), and didn't prohibit jeans entirely.

It's only been two weeks and the dress code seems to be hitting the skids. I am taking notes--literally writing it down--so that when someone in management decides to say anything to me, I'll be able to shovel it right back at them. As for the bow ties, I knew that dog was not gonna hunt--I have yet to see a single one. I bet this will all go away by November.

One of our managers is a bit...um, portly? Porky? Husky?? Well, whatever you want to call it, he refuses to tuck his shirt in. I don't blame him--I mean, I'm not exactly skin and bones myself and know what looks good or bad. But we hate that big ol' tub-o'-guts so if we can use his non-compliance as our ticket out of dressing like penguins, all the better. I went out and spent $95 on some white shirts that were 1) breathable and comfortable and 2) long enough to tuck in comfortably, plus undershirts that I would NEVER wear otherwise in this Florida heat. If they want to bitch and moan about my denim or my sneakers, then they should enforce all the details of the dress code equally on themselves as well as the serfs. But I haven't heard a peep. Business Casual was always okay before, and of all the problems this company has, our sartorial choices is NOT one of them.

People often comment that I'm not properly dressed for summer weather. But I just love the feel of my winter outfits on my body, and those lightweight summer jackets usually don't have enough pockets (or any!) and I need to have everything on me: passport, wallet, keys, phone, cigarettes, lighter, chewing gum, after shave (in one of those tiny sampler thingies, not the full bottle), just-in-case-painkillers, a few additional keys of this & that and - omg, almost forgot - lip balm.
So yeah, basically, a handbag-on-legs.
If I were a woman I could simply carry a handbag, but as a man my options are very limited.
