Random things you hate

Have to get this off my chest. My friend always asks if I am free for a call and every time I call her she spends more time talking to her kids in the background or making so much noise making her dinner that I can’t hear anything!!!!

Or how about when someone says I’ll call you right back; just give me a few minutes. And they call back three days later.

And then there’s my personal favorite; the people who have phones but never answer them. Voicemail every single time. Just tell me you don’t want to talk to me.

Dimples. They're adorable on people but not on food containers. Orange juice bottles that used to contain 64 ounces now contain 52; peanut butter jars that contained 32 ounces now contain 28. This isn't limited to food: toilet paper rolls are about 1/2" narrower and the diameter of the cardboard tube is larger.

When I open a bag of potato chips and the bag is only half full. Why? Just put them in a smaller bag and make me think I’m getting a full bag instead.

The cushion of air in the bag keeps the chips from being broken up in shipping. Or at least keeps them from being broken up more. One of the reasons they developed Pringles was to get around this (a new packaging system), but it did not revolutionize chip-eating for the most part.

The "incredible shrinking products" examples will only become more obvious now that inflation seems to have been brought back from the dead this year.

This makes sense. I just crack up laughing when I open that bag and I put my hand in and it feels like my hand is going further and further down every time I buy them.

There's more air than there used to be. Similar to the dimples I mentioned (the jars are the same size as before but they now have a dimple in the bottom) potato chip bags are the same size they were previously but there are fewer chips inside. Instead of shrinking the bags they only changed the print that notes the weight of the contents.

Vendors fight for shelf space in grocery stores. Rather than give up a single inch by making the packaging smaller, they would rather include dimples, etc. and maintain the same amount of shelf space. Instead of raising the price to consumers (which might prompt them to compare prices with other brands) they keep the price the same but reduce the contents. Stores like this practice because they don't have to change the layout (plan-o-gram) of the shelves when a product size is reduced.

I guess you can call this my rant on "Cynical Pricing".

I went to the supermarket today to stock up for July 4th. I wanted to buy some corn, and they offered individual ears of corn (still in the husks) for 40 cents each. They also offered four ears of corn with the husks stripped off, pre-packaged for...$3.99. I found that hilarious. I can clean the ears of corn myself and save the money.

Same store: they had 38 oz. Coca-Colas on the shelf for $1.39 each. They also had 20 oz. sizes in their cold case at the registers for $1.99 each. So not only is the drink at the registers smaller (nearly half the size), it costs 60 cents more simply because it's cold. Oh...kay.

I had decided not to buy a box of cookies in their bakery that had four, large cookies in it for $5.99. I had to force myself to put it down, let me tell you. So then when I'm checking out, I see the same cookies packaged individually (in plastic bags) and being sold for $2.50 apiece. I had to do a double-take, and when I told the cashier about the 4 for 5.99 thing, she shrugged it off.

If only I could have found some pricing trick to get the steaks cheaper, because...holy crap I might need to take a second mortgage.

i hate the saying "this is sick' it sounds f... stupid and it just drives me nuts whenever i hear anyone say it. it's not a new saying it's been around to hazard a guess around 20 years or so. i also hate books that fall apart you should see the condition of the paperback i'm reading it looks awful i did buy it used from a Library though years ago to be fair. the book? (1981)'s Centaur Aisle by Piers Anthony that's the 4th book in his Xanth series

It’s really amazing what you notice in these stores when you pay attention to the prices. I’m the type that just chucks it in the cart and doesn’t pay much attention to price but others I know have made me more sensitive to it. And when you stop and think about the way certain things are priced, it really makes no sense.

I’m amazed at the condition of some of the books I see in other peoples homes. I keep my books looking brand new for the most part. I’d be embarrassed to lend them out if I were some people.

Not only do you need to create an account for everything, now you also have to download apps for some kind of double verification thing.
NOTHING gets done anymore unless you're willing to jump through digital hoops.
I hate apps and I don't want to use my phone for internet related stuff and I also never scan those IRCQ things. It's stupid and I hate it.

People that just spread rumors for no reason without the facts, particularly in the workplace. It seems to get worse every day. I guess you can’t fight ignorance.

it's amazing how some old books from say the 60's you can still read and have no issues with them, than there's one like an old Laurel & Hardy book i bought a few years back from (1967) and that thing reeks it's from the age of the book and i can't look through it very long without getting a headache. but i have books from around the same time and i have no issues like that it's just that one i own that's like that,

so i also will add that books that age some of them depending how old they get they can get a certain smell that can give you headaches. there's plenty of old books out there if you keep them nice can still get that smell once it gets old enough. i dunno if the person who owned that book kept it someplace i got it at Half Price books when i got mine.

Meaning that they like it, or don't like it? Calling something sick used to be a criticism, now it's praise. I don't get that at all.

I don't know how prices are worked out. The don't seem to have any relationship to their intrinsic worth.

I keep my books looking brand new for the most part.

Me, too. There's no need to "crack the spine" when you read it. I've seen some people do that even before they start.

I’m the type that just chucks it in the cart and doesn’t pay much attention to price but others I know have made me more sensitive to it. And when you stop and think about the way certain things are priced, it really makes no sense.

It's a process, for want of a better term, that is applied to generate the consumer retail price.

Something like, raw material cost factoring in manufacturing steps, plus volume produced driven by market research, location of production and shipping, tariffs on important that the importing party pays not the exporter. That's passed on to the purchaser and finally any value added consideration and taxes. Then the market place price structure and perceptions about value for money by consumers and profit.
Something like that, from my experiences.

trying to watch you tube videos when our Neighbor is doing fireworks it's so damn loud ya know? i think i pretty much grew out of fireworks years ago but try watching a you tube video or really anything while they are going it's impossible. i also try and keep my books looking new but that's not always possible either
