the random thing I'm hating on right now is the local media over-dramatizing the weather/Helene situation

The UPS courier who collects our parcels told me (just 45 minuted ago) "have you heard about America?"
And I thought, oh my god, another huge terrorist attack.
He told me about the biggest storm in 100 years and that tens of thousands people were expected to die.
So I came home, turned up the internet and expected to be bombarded with "most deadly catastrophe" news but I can't find it anywhere. Or are we not up-to-date yet? (unlike that UPS courier).

Well, we’ve had two hurricanes hit the country back to back in the last couple of weeks but nothing close to that many deaths thankfully. I think we’ve had a couple of hundred deaths overall, not that I’m saying that’s any better of course as loss of life is terrible at any number. Sadly a lot of people are still missing so that number could go up though. There’s been a lot of flooding, tornadoes, structural damage, loss of power, loss of homes and vehicles, etc. but for the most part the majority of us have been very lucky so far. It could’ve been a lot worse.

My store was closed yesterday for Election Day. I was the opening manager this morning and when I arrived at 845 this morning I found this waiting for me, please see the photos below.
now to preface, I work at goodwill we are a retail thrift type store and a donation center. The donations are the merchandise that we sell hra tes it is in a good condition and sellable (although I am finding that people will buy anything).
we have specific times that people can donate and we do not take everything. There is a posting that states not to drop donations as it is considered littering. People don’t care apparently.

Why is dropping off donations considered littering?

It has to be done in an organized way. The workers have to interact with the donators to make sure the donators are not just using the donation center as a place to rid themselves of "junk" they should probably just throw away. Even if the donator isn't interested in the tax write-off, the donator ought to have enough respect for the organization to follow their rules for donating things and not just dumping them off when no one's looking.

As @Daniel Avery said below yes we have business hours. Donors ned to do it organized. There a system to it. All of those items sat out all night and most of that day I guess when we were closed. We don’t know what it is or what may have been done to it. Also it’s just plain disrespectful. All of that went into the dumpster. That’s our policy. Now granted we do get some junk we trash when items are donated correctly. That’s just the nature of it. But sometimes it does seem we are used as a town dump. Also the littering ordinance is the towns rule.

Perhaps a little late...but watching people on Christmas Eve stockpiling so much food into their shopping trolleys it was if the apocalypse was coming. Supermarkets here in Australia closed for Christmas Day. They resumed trading on Boxing Day.

Bumping this up-- when Goodreads does not have the cover/edition of a particular book you're reading, and when you're trying to indicate you're reading a particular book, you have to use an edition or cover that does not match the one you have (that's a problem because some books have so many editions, and the edition you have may not be listed; I am now reading Arthur Hailey's 1959 medical novel The Final Diagnosis, and this is the edition I have of it)...

Just checked on there, and there is no such option-- personally, I may delete my account with them and go to Library Thing; if they allow custom covers, and Goodreads doesn't, that may be a point in their favor.
