Removing multiple posts with the same content...

Earlier, I posted on the Six Things topic about favorite foods, and said "Burgers" as #5 (my newest answer). Apparently, this board hung up for some reason, and I could not post it. Now I discover that I posted the same thing 4 or 5 times. What I'd like to know is how to put it right so that someone else can finish that category in that thread and start another category (or if an admin here can put that right for me by removing the excess posts).

Hi @bmasters9. Thanks for flagging this up. I've now deleted the duplicate posts.

If this happens again, we'll be happy to remove any duplicates. You can post a link to it here in this forum, message one of us or use the "Report" function which appears under every post.

@Mel O'Drama-- Thank you for putting that right for me, and for the tip on how I can bring it to your attention when this happens again. I strongly dislike posting the same thing in multiple posts, especially without realizing it, because usually when I post something, it shows up right then as new (as it would do for every member here).

Thanks again!

Anytime, bm9. :)

I hear you on that. These things do happen sometimes, though, and it can't be helped. The site usually runs very smoothly, but every technology has its little glitches every once in a while and many of us have experienced making duplicate posts, so it's nothing to worry about.

While members can't delete posts there is the option to edit your own posts for up to twelve hours after posting. If repeated posts are bothering you, you can edit the duplicates for clarification until they are removed. A common way to do this would be to remove all text and change it to say something like "Duplicate post".

That will probably help-- the next time I run into this snag, I may try that; thanks for that tip as well.

Not a complaint, but curiosity...

Why the 12 limit on editing posts?

Why the 12 limit on editing posts?

I'm not 100% sure, but perhaps it was felt most errors would probably be spotted and corrected within that time, plus any major edits to a post made after the thread has progressed could potentially confuse the conversation.

It used to be just one hour, so extending that limit to twelve hours was quite a jump.
