I have to say I'm shocked. I bought all his albums and CD singles back then. I loved a lot of his songs: Incredible, Dive In, so many beautiful album tracks, not just his singles. I even read his autobiography. His debut single "Colourblind" was on top of the UK charts exactly 20 years ago.

I read this on the BBC website. Such a shocker. He was one of the most memorable characters to come out of Pop Idol/The X Factor.

I hate reality TV and talent shows - I dont watch it at all and you couldnt pay to to watch it either

BUT I did see him in Guys and Dolls on stage in London and he was excellent in it

Very sad news at the age of 41 and sad for his family and friends

RIP Darius x

My mum was a big fan of him.

I liked him too - colourblind is my favourite track of his.

I’m finding it difficult to compute that he was only 41 when he had been around for more than two decades.

Apparently, had he lived there was due to be a televised “Pop Idol” reunion later on this year.

RIP

"Reality TV is all about narratives and often they can build up around people and solidify like cement; somehow, via an alluring mix of naivety, panache and genuine talent, Darius was able to rewrite his."

It seems Darius' fans are torn at the moment over the way his death is being reported. Some want the tabloids to stop speculating and respect the family's desire for privacy, others want the family to be honest and simply say whether Darius was physically or mentally ill or both or neither. Only then the tabloids will be satisfied.

I always have an issue with people asking for privacy who previously didn't have a problem with going public. Darius liked to talk about his health experiences (him drinking the water from the Thames for example), and he discussed at length first his father's cancer and later his mother's. If his father or his mother didn't like it they would have told him they not do that that, so I'm amazed at his family's behavior now.
