Ronald Reagan - a racist

Ronald Reagan called Africans "monkeys" and that they're not wearing shoes to Richard Nixon. Nixon in return obviously agreed and thought it was funny.

No wonder there has been so much racism in the world when even the most powerful people in the world have been racists.

We've come a bit on the way since the 70s, but hearing people yell "send them back!" as Donald Trump attacks 4 democratic African-Americans just goes to show that racism is still very much present in society. And still a huge problem.

Call me naive, but I just don't know why skin colour is so important to so many people. Underneath the main layer of skin, we all look exactly the same. To me, racism is just as dumb as thinking animals with black fur are worth less than animals with white fur.

Well, those types tend to harbor those kinds of …. traditionalist.... biases.

Today, however, these labels get dumped on all sorts of people who aren't able to consistently pass the current ideological purity test that even the purveyors of that test can't pass. So real racism loses it forbiddenness.

Heh. Those Nixon Tapes are going to be paying off for years.

Funny, several years ago Billy Graham (who was far less right wing than his offspring) got caught sharing anti-semitic sentiments with Nixon on his tapes, and Graham just responded that he didn't recall the conversation, didn't recall having those attitudes, and added that it just sounded like he was going along with what Nixon said in order to get along.

It basically worked, perhaps due to the lack of defensive rationalizations on Graham's part.
