I brought up this topic about 20 years ago on the old Soapnet forum and people were outraged when I said it wrong of Chase force himself on Maggie in her vulnerable state. The comments poured in that it was his right cause they were married. The response turned me off to that forum and I didn’t return. Glad to see the shift in perspective over the decades.
Robert Foxworth always complained about how badly written his scripts were but here he is fatal The gestures are his
David had problems with his leg at the beginning of the fifth season. That's why he cut off the continuation of the kiss scene.
The scriptwriters decided that Maggie would have a platonic romance with one of the hospital doctors and perhaps Chase's scene served to justify that after kissing Richar she had an affair with the doctor
Davis recovered quickly and the doctor's dialogues were said by Richadrs

Oh he was so wrong the bearded one. Let's not forget about the tantrum he had, when Maggie walked in on him and Connie. It as to be said that he should have considered Maggie's amesnesia, before his own sexual desire in The Phoenix.

He seemed very pleased when interviewed for Dutch television, although he acknowledged that it wasn't masterpiece theatre (personally, I think some of his scenes actually are quite Shakespearean).
Shakespeare also wrote comedies and romantic plays Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, The Taming of the Shrew.
Can you imagine Robert playing Romeo or Benedict?
He was pretentious.
He was well chosen for a lousy J.R. Larry was fantastic and brought humor and vulnerability

Well, they say rape is less about sexual desire than it is about power and control and this scene seems to fit that description. Chase was frustrated but less frustrated sexually than with the situation. It wasn't very nice (in fact it was downright ugly), or possibly even legal, but it was understandable, in the same way that Richard Avery slapping his pregnant wife on Knots Landing after she told him she wanted an abortion and then immediately regretting it was. On paper, it's all kinds of wrong, but one of the beauties of drama is that it can show you a situation from several different sides at once without necessarily insisting you should feel a certain way about it. I've said this a kajillion times before but making moral judgements about fictional characters isn't all that interesting to me. The most compelling characters are often the most flawed.

Never seemed very sexy
Well, he and Maggie were sort of the mum & dad of the show therefore I rarely thought of them as being "hot". It's only when affairs start to happen that things start to look a little dirtier. I mean, Cliff Barnes wasn't exactly Mister Universe but that didn't stop beauties like Afton Cooper to be all over him, as it were. Casting choices were different back then.

I think Susan was very wasted in the series
Susan at first refused the role she did not want to be the mother of two children so old
And setting her up with Chase didn't help.
When she came to Barcelona it was the 1990s she charmed everyone
Susan, a million times more cheerful, sparkling, witty, friendly and outgoing than the impeccable Maggie.
Here she is gorgeous and she was 49 years old

I think it totally worked for the show: the white bread wholesomeness of the Giobertis juxtaposed with the dark and sinister Channings. And later on, Maggie's virtuous image made for a great contrast when she eventually got involved with someone as dark and dangerous as Richard. If she'd been all glam-glam to begin with, there would have been less of a character journey for her to go on. Besides, there were enough glam-glam women in Falcon Crest and all the other soaps,. It was good to have that contrast.

She looks perfectly nice here, but a bit generic '80s middle-aged glam-glam soap actress. The more natural look she had in FC suited her better, I think.

Susan is an independent intelligent woman and a lot of fun.
Let's stop stories of the good saves the bad. Maggie was not a nun
.As Susan said in an interview
"David was such a charming handsome man, so affectionate, so polite, so charming
They were the most attractive couple of the series and it is logicalthat her characters fell in love
Susan, instead of baby sitting and cooking, should have run the Globe while Richard went about his business.

But Susan also said that the idea of the good girl (Maggie) trying to civilize the bad boy (Richard) was what made the story idea compelling to her -- and the fact that, as she pointed out, it never really works.

I'm not sure how that's relevant. Are you saying that because Susan Sullivan has all these qualities that the role of Maggie should have been written to reflect them? I mean, you could argue that Maggie did have all those qualities, as much as a character could within the artificial confines of an '80s soap. But one could also argue that the job of actor is to convincingly play a character who doesn't necessarily share their own real-life characteristics.
Let's stop stories of the good saves the bad.
Is that a description of Maggie and Richard's story? I don't see it as black and white as that.
Maggie was not a nun
Did anyone say she was?
They were the most attractive couple of the series and it is logicalthat her characters fell in love
Surprising but somehow inevitable, yes; logical, I'm not sure. I'm not sure logic has much to do with emotion, even in fiction (at least not interesting, intriguing fiction).
Susan, instead of baby sitting and cooking, should have run the Globe while Richard went about his business.
Sounds a bit generic '80s TV career-woman, but I don't really care what job she has so long as the stories are good. I mean, most lady-executive jobs in 80s soaps come down to a woman sitting behind a desk wearing a pair of shoulder-pads. I don't think it matters which desk.

Wasted? Almost every soap tragedy happened to her, and she was married to two FC male leads, she was a writer, almost made a movie etc etc.
Susan at first refused the role she did not want to be the mother of two children so old
She had played the mother of a teenage daughter in Rich Man Poor Man therefore I find it hard to believe that vanity had anything to do with her decision regarding the role of Maggie Gioberti.
And setting her up with Chase didn't help
I have a feeling that Chase has become tellytalk's new "Mandy Winger" - every reasoning or argument is going to fall on deaf ears so maybe it's time for me to back off.

In this interview Susan tells him that she refused to do the pilot because she did not want to be the mother of two older children. She even commented that she was going to be GRANDMA
If Maggie Potter was the mother of a teenage daughter but her character was too serious in the end Rudy fell in love with Tom's widow
In the first season she worked for the globe but left, her family came first
In the sixth, her problem was her pregnancy
In the seventh, her work was the construction of the new house.
A millionaire is going to live in a house under construction? We saw the poor thing taking care of the children, didn't they have a babysitter? Serving breakfast and apparently with only one person to take care of the house
In the eighth instead of going back to work on the globe, she runs a small newspaper.
The Lorimar follow-up group didn't like the Maggie of the seventh. There were even complaints about his interpretation
And those of the eighth season described it as lacking in interest. No wonder they fired her in the ninth
The thirteen must have been something to do with the cartel and Maggie must have helped her husband fight them.
