So, in just recently commenting on @Gioberti84 's thread about the exteriors for the homes used for Falcon Crest, Dallas, and Dynasty, I commented that I felt as though we saw more of the land surrounding Southfork. I'm not 100% this is true, as I've seen Dallas a lot more. However, I was tempted to watch one of the Falcon Crest intros. and I chose season 6..

In John Callahan's picture, does anyone know what building is in the background of his title card? I recognize just about everything else. but..that doesn't look like the spa..it isn't the Villa Miravalle(Falcon Crest mansion) is it? at :45 seconds.

I do have to say. I think I would also take the beautiful land surrounding Villa Miravalle to Soutfork as well.

I've always assumed it was the spa. Sometimes they would trade off the title card backgrounds arbitrarily.

When FC removed the limo-on-the-bridge opening for the titles (as they did in Season 5), removed the Apollo title card at the end of the opening credits (as they did for Season 6) and then added those cheesy "ripple" effects (which could have worked had those ripples been slower and used less frequently) it was emblematic for the loss of the series' identity.

And John Callahan? Dana Sparks?? (Neither of whom should've been there).

They'd turned this relatively-organic, gothic serial into a tacky daytime soap.

Sorry to bitch.

So, after reading your post, I went back and watched the season 1-5 intros, and first off. I really like the extended music in the beginning(season 1) before the title card. While David Selby and Ana-Alicia may very well have ended up being the show's saving graces, they forever altered the intro. :scream:

That said, I find seasons 3 and 4 to really be kind of the peak of the intro, and then season 5...o_O I think 6 & 7 are better than 5. How off putting. At least we still had Apollo, though. Almost sounds like a song title..

"At least we still had Apollo!"

Season 5's tackiness was the unsubtle red lettering at which everybody snickers. But the later ripple-effect shtick and the removal of the falcon for Earl Hamner's credit are just awful --- I mean, the show is called 'Falcon Crest', for goodness sake!

But that's what happens to the karma of the show when you steal it from someone else: everything falls apart precipitously.

Allegedly.

In Season 6 and beyond, after the Falcon Crest title card (and the family crest comes at you) they need to go to the glass clinking with the man & woman's hand, and then have one, longer, more polished ripple effect before going to Wyman's title card --- and then no more damned ripples! (And ending on Apollo for the remainder of the series). Would DALLAS ever remove its shot moving in on Southfork at the end of the opening credits with J.R. toasting the audience with a grin and a glass of bourbon and branch from the livingroom bar?? (Come to think of it, by Season 13, they just might've).

I mean, are we actually supposed to believe that Falcon Crest winery produced a Ripple?? Talk about down-marketing!
