What if, during her 16 year exile, Alexis had been searching for Roger Grimes, all to reunite with the man she loved, and so she could join him and their presumed daughter, Amanda, and make a new happy life somewhere? Of course, Roger already being dead, it proved to be a fruitless effort, and after a few years, Alexis gave up. And after dedicating so much time only to come up empty, she found herself unable to be the mother Amanda needed, and so decided to just raise her from afar, giving money to Rosalind and her husband throughout Amanda's child/teen-hood while she mourned and wondered.
That would iron out all the "wrinkles" in the show's timeline: Alexis figured Roger either died or simply disappeared off the face of the earth for when she gets subpoenaed for Blake's trial, she didn't want Blake to claim fatherhood over Amanda when Alexis wanted it to be Roger, and it would have better paved the groundwork for Alexis being so vengeful when Roger's body is discovered.
