Someone just answered a "Dallas" question incorrectly

I stopped by the Cliff Barnes restaurant several years ago when my sister and I was meeting up with a friend from the board in Stockholm.
We didn't try the food though as they only opened later that night and we were on our way to a concert in Globen.

However what I didn't know until now is that the same owners also has started a lunch restaurant:

I had a chance to stop by Cliff Barnes a few years ago and it was fun to see! It was fairly early on a weekday, so not many people were there, but apparently it gets a good crowd on the weekends. (I actually chose Stockholm as a stop on a European trip from the US because I'd randomly run across the fact that there was a Cliff Barnes establishment there - maybe I googled 'Cliff Barnes' for some reason? ..not that one needs an excuse to visit Stockholm!)

At the time (I think August 2015) there was a Sue Ellen bar/lounge a bit closer to the city center, and of course I dropped in for a nice stiff vodka drink! I'm not sure if that was the same as the current lunch place.

That's a fairly common mistake, in my experience. Obviously someone who didn't watch the show but heard (or misheard) the publicity.

Yes indeed. And along the same lines I have memories from the Eighties of people people on quiz shows being asked "Who shot JR?" and more often than not the answer was "Sue Ellen". And this was way before Sue Ellen did eventually take her turn. I'm fairly sure I've even seen "Bobby" given in response to that one.

That's cool that you chose to go to Stockholm just to visit the Cliff restaurant.

The Dallas spin-off Knots Landing was first shown in the UK in which decade?

In my zeal, I found myself reflexively calling out "The Seventies" and wincing when the contestant took a guess at The Eighties.

And then, a second before confirmation, I remembered the Pilot would indeed have first aired on this side of the Atlantic several months into the Eighties.

Oh... the dirty, filthy shame of it.​

Well, when you put it that way I feel a bit better.

I'm sure you're right. A casual (or non) viewer would associate both Knots and Dallas with the Eighties and probably assume that they both began and ended during that decade.

In a round of this evening's repeated Celebrity Pointless, eight British soap stars were shown cast pictures of Dallas (the shot on the Southfork Lawn, as on the S1 DVD) and Dynasty (Blake and the female ensemble, as on the S2 DVD) and asked to name the least well-known actors from them.

I immediately had Pamela Bellwood pegged as a pointless answer. Correctly as it turns out. But I was very surprised to find that Pamela Sue Martin and Jim Davis were also pointless. Nobody present named any of them. In fact most people seemed to struggle with the round. They did manage to name Larry, Patrick, Charlene, Joan C., John F. and the two Lindas. And one person incorrectly took a punt at Farrah Fawcett.

A fairly recent picture of Patrick Duffy just appeared as one of the answers on Pointless, in the category of celebs born on St. Patrick's Day.

He scored 17 points, which I'm sure would have been significantly higher a couple of decades ago.

Foster and Allen knew who he was and got the all-important point in the head-to-head.

Anthea Turner (silly woman) answered incorrectly on Pointless recently.

The question was about Pam and Bobby and which Shakespearean characters they were supposed to resemble. Even though Romeo and Juliet was listed, the silly bitch said,

"Anthony and Cleopatra".

I feel strongly that a basic knowledge of Dallas must be part of any reasonable public education, and that is one of our global society's great shortcomings at the moment.

These inexcusably incorrect quiz show answers are glaring proof!

One clip showed was from a round where people were asked to identify people who'd been assassinated. One of the descriptions was "Assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas".

The woman took a guess at JR.

Not to hijack the thread, because I think it's close enough as it's a Dallas trivia question. This one is for the forum instead of a game show, so I've made it a little more challenging than one you'd likely find on a game show.

My question for the forum is: Throughout the original run of Dallas from 1978-1991, how many different situations occurred where someone fired a loaded gun at JR?

Edit: Maybe this is hijacking the thread, or at least making the question hard to find for people who might be interested, so I'm relocating it to it's own thread.

Thanks for sharing @Mel O'Drama that is hilarious.
It also proves the point how the tv-series Dallas helped the town heal after the JFK murder. They were stuck with chip on their shoulders for years after that and along came Dallas and changed everyone's perception of the city!

Absolutely. Similar to how Jaws changed the instant association of Edgartown and Martha's Vineyard with another notorious Kennedy incident: Chappaquiddick.

Tonight's Eggheads featured a Dallas question.

In the television series Dallas, Kristin Shepard, who famously shot JR, was the sister of which character:

a) Pam
b) Jenna
c) Sue Ellen

The question was given to a lad barely into his twenties, who had no idea at all. On the basis that it sounded most like a character from Dallas and the most "Southern", he opted for Sue Ellen. Surprise registered on his face when he found his guess was correct.
