Movie Top Ten Someone, take over the baton

I've modified my list to omit the Buffy tv-series and Scarlett mini tv-series. I still adore those "remakes" but I guess my list should also focus on just movies to keep it simple.
But I maintain that Buffy is the best remake ever IMHO, since they took a mediocre movie and turned it into a cult tv-series that lasted 7 years and that's quite an accomplishment. :hat:

Round Twenty-Six: Favorite TV-series based on a Movie

In an adaption we transfer a story from one medium to another. In this particular case it’s movies that have been remade into TV-series. So which is your favorite TV-series based on a movie?

Totals: Sunday

1. Peyton Place (1964)
2. East Of Eden (1981, mini-series)
3. Romanzo Criminale (2008)
4. In The Heat Of The Night (1988)
5. The Long Hot Summer (1985, mini-series)
6. Valley Of The Dolls (1994)

In most cases, one could argue that these were simply different adaptations of the written novel, but keep in mind that even Psycho was a novel, and not exclusively written for the movie.
Perhaps it's better not to be too fussy about this.

Series based on movies that I still want to see:

Valley Of The Dolls 1981 (mini-series)
The Long Hot Summer 1965

My list would be:

1. Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)
2. Fame (1982-1987)
3. McLeod's Daughters (2001-2009)
4. Scarlett (1994, mini-series)

I'll might add more TV-series to it later. Just need to give it some thought if I have seen any other tv-series based on movies...

  1. Cagney & Lacey* (based on the 1981 Movie Of The Week)
  2. Peyton Place** (based on the 1957 film)
  3. Fame (based on the 1980 film)
  4. The Pink Panther Show (based on the opening credits of the Pink Panther film series)
  5. Carry On Laughing (based on the Carry On film series)
  6. The Wind In The Willows* (based on the 1983 film)
  7. Dirty Dancing*** (based on the 1987 film)
  8. M*A*S*H (based on the 1970 film)
  9. The Real Ghostbusters (based on the 1984 film)

* This might be a bit controversial, but as both C&L and WITW originally aired as standalone TV movies and weren't intended to be series at the time of airing (with major cast changes in the case of C&L making it an entirely different animal) I think they stand apart from standard TV pilots enough to fit here.

** Technically an alternative telling of the story in the book, but the TV show owes enough to the film to fit here. Not least the theme music.

*** I've never got round to watching the Dirty Dancing film, but remember quite enjoying the TV series when it had a late-night airing here at some point in the late Eighties.

Does that mean I can add Paper Dolls to my list? Some say it's a pilot movie, but the movie is from 1982 and the series from 1984....

Cape Fear (1991)
The movie also includes cameos from Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum and Martin Balsam who were all in the original movie from 1962.

And it reuses Bernard Hermann's musical score from the original movie.
