Thank you for joining us @Jessie. :)

Okay so now when the votes have been counted the Oscar goes to...

Jennys bilder 773.JPG

Yep your favorite Audrey Hepburn movie is:

517GA9XD5NL.jpg
My Fair Lady (1964)
This is your classical story of a girl from the wrong part of town that is being transformed into a fair lady when Professor Higgins decides to work with Eliza on her pronouncation to work away her cockey accent and make her sound like she comes from the upper class. It's an American musical comedy movie starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison. It's directed by George Cukor.

You gave it a total of 40 points.

Here's a trailer for the winning movie:

Also a photo of the costume used in the movie:

Okay up next is another decade as suggested by @Emelee :)

This time we're gonna go all the way back to the 1940s

This decade was tainted by the Second World War which ended in 1945. The consequences of the war could still be felt in the second half of the decade. In this decade the cold war started, United Nations was formed and several colonies gained their freedom as decolonization continued. This decade also saw some new technology such as the atom bomb, the jet engine and computers. Some world leader in this decade was Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, Mahatma Gandhi, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Mao Zedong and Emperor Hirohito.

The most prominent music genre was swing music and crooners such as Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby were hugely popular. This was during the golden age of cinema and the most popular film genre was film noir. But which movie produced in this decade is your favorite?

I love these decades themes, as I have seen so few movies from these early decades and I love to get these recommendations so I can add more titles to my "to watch" list.

So, the best movies from the 40s that I have seen (so far) are:

1. Citizen Kane
2. And Then There Were None
3. Bambi
4. It's a Wonderful Life
5. Rope
6. Gilda
7. Casablanca
8. Dumbo
9. Pinocchio
10. The Grapes of Wrath

1. It Always Rains On Sunday (1947)
Film noir at its best. "The starting point for soap opera"

2. Kind Hearts And Coronets (1949)
Delightfully black comedy. One Alec Guinness is wonderful. Nine Alec Guinnesses are pure heaven.

3. Went The Day Well? (1942)
Essentially a WWII propaganda film, warning Brits to be vigilant for fifth columnists and encouraging women to fight back however they can while their men are away. It captures an idyllic England, which makes the outbursts of violence even more shocking.

4. Blithe Spirit (1945)
Acid Nöel Coward witticisms. The bitchiest ghost ever. Charmingly dated special effects. And Margaret Rutherford as a medium. What's not to love?!

5. Hue And Cry (1947)
A boys' own adventure which is fun enough. But it also serves as a fascinating look at a badly bombed London post WWII.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYesPG8Da_M

6. Dead Of Night (1945)
A horror anthology film with some genuinely chilling moments. And the creepiest doll ever put on film.

7. A Matter Of Life And Death (1946)
Proving that stories - and the consequences - of war were still resonating a year after WWII ended. Perhaps more so with hindsight. A wonderful film and a true classic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0veuSLLWZ0

8. Passport To Pimlico (1949)
Endearing British comedy with an enjoyably outrageous premise.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKrc0nIBHFs

9. Rope (1948)
Before the Spice Girls' Wannabe video, Hitch did an entire feature-length film that appears to be one long shot with no cuts. It's not, and when you know where the reel changes are you can't miss them. But it effectively ramps up the suspense of the murderers' potential discovery for a loooooong time.

10. Whisky Galore (1949)
The Scottish humour and atmosphere come through strongly. This is great fun.

What’s going on here? May I intrude? Oh, thank you very much! Thank you for the warm welcome. Yes, I’m beginning to like you too possibly.

To Be Or Not To Be (Jack Benny and Carole Lombard in her last movie)
A Matter Of Life And Death
Gaslight (Charles Boyer reminds me of my family, which kind of makes me Angela Lansbury?)
Blithe Spirit
Dead of Night
Double Indemnity
Cat People
White Heat
His Girl Friday
Kind Hearts and Coronets - Apart from the multiple Alecs, I’ve always had a soft spot for Dennis Price villainy on H. G. Wells’ Invisible Man and The Avengers. Then there was the time on ITC’s Court Martial (set in the 1940s) when he appointed the recently deceased Bradford Dillman as his legal counsel, knowing that although his counsel thought him guilty, he would do everything in his power to find him innocent and get him off the charge, even though he was really guilty. And it worked! Which meant that the two series leads (Bradford Dillman and Peter Graves) were on opposite sides in court. I like his performances as the slimy Sir Brian in episodes of Jason King, opposite the recently deceased Peter Wyngarde.

Bubbling under...Out of the Past, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Thief of Bagdad and many more

Bye bye...I’m slipping away in a minute...

Okay so my picks from the 1940's:

1. That Hamilton Woman (1941)
The story of Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton starring Vivien Leigh & Laurence Olivier. I love this movie. My only regret is that it's not in color.

2. Adam's Rib (1949)
Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy is in fine form in this comedy. Just a hilarious movie that's a delight to watch.

3. Caesar and Cleopatra (1945)
Because I have this fascination with Queen Cleopatra of Egypt. Vivien Leigh's take on the role is very different from Elizabeth Taylor's. Also this movie is in brilliant color.

4. National Velvet (1944)
Elizabeth Taylor's break out role. It's a feel good story about a young girl, who can do anything she sets her mind to. A horse movie that also has a bit of a feministic message. In color.

5. Lassie Come Home (1943)

Because I just love that dog. Also in color.

6. Rebecca (1940)

Great Hitchcock movie with Laurence Olivier that keeps you guessing.

7. Little Women (1949)

This take on the classic novel stars Elizabeth Taylor and is in color.

8. Woman of the Year (1942)
Another hilarious Hepburn-Tracy comedy.

9. 21 Days (1940)
Another rare Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier collaboration.

10. Casablanca (1942)

I need to rewatch this movie. Might have been higher on my list if it hadn't been so long since I saw it. Ingrid Bergman & Humphrey Bogart.

Honorable mention to "The Philiadelphia Story" (1940) and "His Girl Friday" (1940) that are also excellent movies...

So that's my list. :)
Now what is yours?
