I've just noticed another Spelling soap in 1994 on YouTube called Winnetka Road.
It was on NBC, which would show Sunset Beach 3 years later, and was about a group of people in Chicago, Illinois. NBC wouldn't show the 3rd episode because it was apparently was too violent and it lasted just 6 episodes.
Clearly it had a horror show cast to excuse the pun- what with Catherine Hicks, later known for 7th Heaven (ironically from Spelling) but known at the time for Child's Play, Josh Brolin before he was in Mimic, Kristen Cloke pre Final Destination, Megan Ward before she was battling aliens with Eric Close in Dark Skies (which was interestingly on NBC), and Richard Herd from the original V (which was on NBC).
(On the Dark Skies point, it was plotted by it's creators in the same way as Babylon 5 with a 5 season story. The plan was to start in the Sixties which is why the 1st season is like that, then work each season in decade up into a big finale on New Year's Eve 1999. Clearly the ratings weren't spectacular, not helped being on Saturday night, and the show went a retooling midway, when Jeri Ryan joined and Megan Ward's character got co-opted into the Hive).
