I've always had a bit of a crush on Princess Anne, and I must say I was impressed with her riding with the guards instead of in one of the cushy coaches.

A poll was run by the Daily Express asking readers who their favourite royal of the Coronation weekend was. Prince Harry won by a landslide.
That doesn't seem to be the popular opinion here - at least not as expressed by the media commentators I've heard. Harry appearing on his own is regarded as rather pathetic.

I thought he looked content and confident walking in on his own with the medals he earned while many of the rest of his family arrived wearing medals they didn't earn. I think that is partly why so many of those who voted in the poll said his was their favourite royal at the coronation.

Therefore, why not spend the £250 million that the con-a-nation cost instead on providing homes and support for rough sleepers? That would give me far more joy than watching a man sit in a chair in Westminster Abbey to put on a hat.
I agree that the money could have been redirected to help rough sleepers and fund outreach projects and numerous other worthwhile projects.

Could one not suggest that the coronation showed some positive attributes of the UK and therefore encourage investment from businesses and tourists happy to spend their money.

Could it not be the case that the cost of the coronation is offset by a boost to the economy?

I'm sure there were some positive attributes of the con-a-nation but I struggle to think of any. The whole thing showcased to the world that the UK is an unequal society in which people can achieve greatness, not through merit, but by means of the family they are born to. It showed how privilege and wealth are valued in this country more than personal achievement. The pictures that went around the world were the police arresting innocent, peaceful protesters which gave the impression that we are a intolerant society bordering onto totalitarianism.

The boost to the economy falls short of the cost of the event itself, the security and the bank holiday. Yes, it attracted some tourists but I think it deterred even more from coming here because they were put of by the crowds, road closures and the general difficulty of getting around. I was in the City of London on Saturday and Sunday and it was far less busy that usual, I would estimate around two-thirds fewer people were there compared with a normal weekend.

This Monday is the King's Birthday holiday in most of Australia. Even though it's been the best part of a year now, it still seems weird to call it that.
And my wall calendar still says Queen's Birthday.

A belated response but... is it common in Britain to include children of the Royal Truman Show in polls? I remembered George's name but had to google some of the others and think it's strange by the press to include them. Charlotte, George and James are in school, the boys old enough to be aware of media reports. I can't imagine how devastating it must be for James to find himself last in the poll - behind Camilla!

Polls about the popularity of the Royals normally include any one in line to the throne and their spouses. We pay for these scroungers (with the exception of Harry and Meghan who fund themselves) so I think it's fair play that we can cast judgement on them.

Yes, some of them are still in school (expensive private schools) and guess who is footing the bill? That right, the UK tax payer. If the Royals don't want their children to be put under this scrutiny, they can always refuse to take our money and fund themselves.

I get what you mean about paying taxes for them. But little children or teenagers shouldn't be judged for the systems we live in before they're able to make a conscious decision to leave their grifter cage. I hope I would think the same if I actually had to pay for them ;) ...

You have more concern for the wellbeing of the young royals than their own parents. They choose the Royal lifestyle and can walk away whenever they want but they won't because they value the trappings of royalty higher than the mental heath of their children.

You are right that it must be difficult for children to be put under public scrutiny but that's the horror of monarchy and another reason why it should be abolished.

Fully agree. I think it's perverse to be born into a cage. When raised in childhood they get brainwashed by a "company" that consists also of people who aren't family (family members are terrible enough with their negligence as you've pointed out) but don't act in their interest (that would mean to get any children out of the cage, as responsible teachers would help to get kids out of a household with cult-like mental abuse). Today many people use the term "groomed". The Royal Trumans are an example of groomed people over centuries. But thanks to the yellow press asslickers (their publishers, writers and readers) these people are glorified while I guess only a small number of people of them is able to identify anyone who won a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in the last 50 years. Or know the names of their next neighbours. This crazy mass hypnosis led to such spectacles as Diana's and the Queen's funerals. Do they attend their next neighbour's funerals too? I doubt it. Because no one toasted their brains over decades with an endless soap about them.

There are monarchies in Europe who spent less money on their RFs than others or they make attempts to reduce costs or where they're more transparent but it's still a system that allows children to be born into a cage facing constant public observation. For me the latter is a bigger problem than the financial costs (because I'm aware that a Republic with a President is no guarantee for not wasting money elsewhere).

Oh, she's so dreadful. Spotify cancelled their podcast, called the duo "lazy grifters."

Well, duh. But Meghan and Harry have no genuine intellectual curiosity about anything other than themselves.

We pay for the work shy, benefit grabbing, non-contributing dregs with fruitful loins and innate understanding that we will pay for their offsprings.

What judgement do you cast on them?

That's not the full story though. Meghan's podcast series Archetypes, was a massive hit for Spotify and regularly topped the charts and even beat Spotify's biggest hit, The Joe Rogan Experience, in the ratings. It won the People's Choice Award for Best Podcast and the Gracie Awards for the Best Entertainment Podcast.

Spotify made suggestions to Harry for future podcast ideas for Archewell productions (the Duke and Duchess's production company) to develop but he wasn't interested in those ideas which is what prompted the "lazy grifters" quote.

Spotify is having a change of strategy and are moving away from big name podcast signings and they have also parted company with Michelle and Barack Obama. Spotify's podcast division is currently a bis loss maker and they have had to lay off staff there. The cancellation of the Archewell contract is more about the direction that Spotify are now going in rather than any failure of Meghan's podcast.

I want our head of state to be chosen by the people, as is the case in most modern democratic states. A system like the one they have in Ireland should be used as a model for the UK and the hundreds of millions of pounds it would save can be used to tackle poverty in our country. A royal could stand in the election for our president and if they win I would be totally fine with that.

As they say, blah blah blah.
