Have watched a few episodes of S3 and Im afraid Olivia Coleman is not impressing me as QE2

Claire Foy was perfect in the role, just perfect as was Matt Smith as Prince Philip and the actress who played Princess Margaret.

Im afriad Claire Foy is a very hard act to follow and as @Sarah says the Queen does not have brown eyes. Personally think its bad casting and she has rather put me off what was a great drama.

S2 made me rather interested in Princess Margaret again, the liz Taylor of the Royal family. I once saw her when i was at school and she didnt dissapoint as she was wearing her white platforms that we used to joke about.

I agree, it just wasn't the same - and I didn't like Helena as Princess Margaret - far too small and hard to get away from the fact she is HBC. I would have cast someone more unknown.

I agree with the comments about Olivia Coleman and Helena Bonham Carter not being as well suited to the characters of the Queen and Princess Margaret as the actors in season 1 but there were other reasons why season 3 wasn't as good. I thought some of the stories they chose to tell were pretty dull, for example Philip's fascination with space travel and his lost of faith. I also think the Queen was played as being colder and less likeable than she was in the first 2 season which may well be an accurate depiction of the woman she became but it made it more difficult for viewers to warm to her.

Honestly, season 3 ended up being the best so far, IMO, and I was also a bit sceptical about it after the first episode. But after that I couldn't stop watching. The cast is just crazy good, both Coleman and the new prince Phillip plus Charles and Ann who look so much like their real versions, especially princess Ann. I absolutely loved the moon-landing episode and the way it impacted Phillip and I'm shocked to see people were bored by it. For me, the most boring episode of the show was Margaret meeting her photographer boyfriend, made me fall asleep and force myself to rewatch the next day.

Season 3 is packed with stand out episodes, from the mining disaster to Charles learning Welsh to the death of Edward which included Geraldine Chaplin's amazing performance as Wallis Simpson. Her scenes after his death were heartbreaking. Introduction of Camila and the hint of Diana coming soon make the whole thing even more exciting. Can't wait for season 4.

I also started a thread in Notable TV with my thoughts. Will merge the two :) I completely agree with @Rove about HBC - she is too famous and also her head is too small!

Small? Really? I think I must live in an alternate
reality where everybody´s head is bigger!
