The End of The United Kingdom

The fall out from Brexit continues. The idiotic decision by the UK Prime Minister Teresa May to go for a hard Brexit has lead to the Scottish Parliament voting to hold another referendum on independence.

At the time of the last referendum, I was very strongly in favour of Scotland remaining within the UK but this time if I had a vote I think I would vote for Scotland to be an independent country so I could still be a citizen of the European Union. Opinion polls show that the Scottish public are split 50-50 on the issue so there is every chance independence could win this time.

The other disaster waiting to happen as a consequence of Brexit is the border between the north and south of Ireland. Post Brexit, I can't see how border checks can't be avoided because without them there would be free movement from anywhere in Europe to Ireland and then into the rest of the UK. The introduction of border checks could potentially cause problems for the Good Friday peace agreement. That together with the rise in support for Sinn Féin in the recent elections to the Northern Ireland assembly and the fact that Northern Ireland Unionists are applying for Irish passports in great numbers make the prospect of Northern Ireland also breaking away from the rest of the UK a little bit more likely.

Post Brexit, Great Britain will be a little less great that it was before. The Conservative Party are slowly destroying our country.

I would love to be independent from the UK. I am sick to death of the decisions of my tiny country resting on England (no offence to any of my English friends). Why do we have to bow to what Teresa May says?? I'm sick of it. Northern Ireland is unique because of our attachment to the South of Ireland - but we can't win because die hard loyalists will never accept a united Ireland and The Troubles could start again. It's no wonder younger generations are leaving. I have an Irish passport and don't consider myself British but agree with your points Angela. I want away from it all by whatever means. Teresa May should have no say in my country - she hasn't a clue what goes on here and she's not 'above' the Irish/Northern Irish people in having the say in what we need.

So much for their "once in a lifetime vote" on indep - which was let me recall, less than 3 years ago, thats a very short lifetime, but why should we trust what a politician says, when they open their mouths they lie!

They are so focused on that, that schools, transport, rail, roads, NHS, education, Police scotland are sidelined and in a pretty awful mess

Ms Sturgeon also needs to look at her own back yard and her constituency which is becoming bandit territory and has high rates of crime, muggings, theft
She is a one trick pony, i loathe her and Salmond and if Scotland does get indep i will head south

Scotland with Indep will become like Northern Ireland in the 70s, look what happened in Glasgow the night after the last election
Bogotry and secterianisn reign supreme here and Prods dont like catholic, north dont like south, east doesnt like west
the only thing that unites some Jocks is their hatred of all things English - take that away and they will turn on themselves and God help us!

I will claim 50% English blood running thro my veins and get my passort and run SOUTH pronto

Personally I think that England should have its own version of the SNP and Plaid Cymru, a party that could draw in the centre left and right without it being New Labour, a devolved English Parliament would be outside of London too, perhaps York could become the home of the devolved English Parliament.

I'm all for an England that isn't part of the UK, the UK is nothing more than a construct and has to be broken up now, England could then devolve further and give powers to certain regions and not be so London-centric.

England needs to separate and deal with England. It's totally unfair that the rest of the UK be dragged into a decision they didn't ask for - ok Wales voted out too.

Sorry but it's typical - England is always the leading nation in a supposedly 'United' Kingdom. And I say that as someone who absolutely loves visiting England, London especially.

I just hate that N Ireland has to answer to a Prime Minister that we can't even vote for. It's a disgrace.

Hence why England should separate from the rest of the UK, I have never, nor will I ever identify myself as being British, I am English first and I say that without being a member of the rotten right wing.

Its clear that each Kingdom has a different outlook on how things should be ran so lets call it a day, and achieve our own objectives, but sadly neither the tories nor labour seem keen on a devolved English Parliament for some bizarre reason, even though it would solve 1000 problems with what's wrong with this country.
