1) Jock and J.R.: Well he was there where he needed him, he knew 'Big Oil' and Jim Davis dying in April 1981 lead to a new dynamic the eldest son could now get away with things, he never could've before. Think about it if Jim hadn't got ill from cancer (God rest his soul) would we have "its like my daddy says or said" uttered from the almighty man? Living up to Jock's expectations was very important to J.R. and every move he made was justified as for the good of the business and also for the benefit of John Ross. - DALLAS.
2) Blake and Steven: They had many merry-go-rounds, commencing with the death of Steven's lover at a fireplace but deep down Blake loved his son despite his bi-sexuality. Over 8 years Blake came a long way from "how could one man do that to another man?" - DYNASTY.
3) Digger and Cliff: Cliff' talking to Digger's grave before J.R. was shot says it all. You got the backstory in one sentence. Digger was a character who was written off too soon. He should have went away wild catting and returned to fight Clayton for Ellie. - DALLAS.
4) Chase and Cole: They had wine in their blood and for a while in those early years father / son Gioberti made the whole thing work; the harvest, the winery and trying to outdo Angela. However a woman came along from Chase's past in season 4 called Connie and the grapes went sour. Alas the once well gelled father / son combo ended up with Cole having no more valley life two seasons later, leaving for Oz to set up a new winery business. - FALCON CREST.
5) Jock and Bobby: Bobby was Jock's favourite son, even though J.R. became the top man of Ewing Oil and for the vast majority the show altogether. Despite the shenanigans from J.R. to do anything for the business Jock did the right thing when he constructed his last will and testament, in the composition he did. - DALLAS.
J.R. feels that he has fully recovered after being nearly bumped off, by his sister in law Kristin. He talks to Jock about going back to Ewing Oil, (a scene from season 3; DVD-4, 1980 - '81):
Jock: "Look J.R. Bobby didn't want to take this job. He did it because I asked him. I agreed to let him run the company the way he saw fit. He did just that."
J.R.: "Dad!"
Jock: "Now just bear me out. Bobby did a damn fine job. Don't you think I owe it to him to run the company a while longer?"
J.R.: "Well where does that leave me? It's my company. I want it back."
Jock: "I can't do that!"
J.R. grinds his teeth and walks off the Southfork patio, not pleased at all.
