1. Cathy Geary - Knots Landing
CG scores for being the impostor created by the person who willingly wanted to be “fooled”. OK - so she couldn’t help being recently murdered Ciji’s doppelgänger, but allowing Gary to dress her up in Ciji’s clothes while she lip synced to Ciji’s greatest hits was more than a little weird.

2. Rita Lesley - Dynasty
For the sheer joy of seeing “Krystle”’s vulgar ejaculation of appreciation during yet another ‘Blake gives his wife jewels’ scene.

3. Chip Roberts - Knots Landing
For using his new identity to seduce grandmothers, sulky teens and singing starlets alike. Oh - and getting all murdery, of course.

4. Adam Carrington - Dynasty
For having two identities and believing both.

5. Ben Stivers - Dallas
For being perhaps soap’s only impostor to appear within a psychic dream foreshadowing a real impostor who may or may not be the person he is claiming to be.

Honorable mention:

Abby Cunningham - Knots Landing

For allowing a dying silent film director to believe she really was his dead wife so she could get her hands on his money. She was so good he left all his worldly goods to the wife in question.

Dishonorable mention:

Jack Ewing - Dallas
For taking Dallas to dizzy new heights of deliberate camp with the Dimitri Marinos plot (JR in a feathered headdress, anyone?)

Another honourable and more long running mention from S&D is Alison Carr, who was really the secretly returned with plastic surgery superbitch Patricia "Pat the Rat" Dunne Hamilton Morrell Palmer.

There were Pats everywhere during that plot. When Alison first arrived David was with another woman who had amnesia and believed she, too, was Patricia. Happy days.

My favourite part was Rowena Wallace returning as the original Pat's long lost twin Pamela. Having her and Alison appear alongside each other just magnified how outlandish the original recast was.

Tony Fenice / Chip Roberts - KNOTS LANDING

Dang. How could I forget Chip. Time to make a couple of edits to my own choices, I think.

Didn't it? They're so physically different, but the way Alison was introduced with her in the bandages and then the photo of the eyes built up so wonderfully I completely bought into it. By the time she was on Charlie's sofa being chatted up by her stepson/arch enemy I was convinced.

I believe Charlie discovered she was Patricia because Allison said "chin-chin" instead of "cheers"?

I'm not a big fan of actors coming back to the show as a lookalike/twin, especially if the original character has died (Melissa, Falcon Crest).

How outrageously mind-boggling would it have been if twin-sister Pamela was played by Belinda Giblin too.

Anyway, onto matters at hand

Absolutely my personal favourite show of all time wins this hands down for me...

1. Stephanie Harper as Tara Welles, FABULOUS in return to Eden mini series
And then a double whammy as she pretends to be someone else again
2. Stephanie Harper as princess Teletha, BEAUTIFUL in return to Eden maxi series
(Has any same character in soap pretended to be two other people like this??)

3. Belinda giblin as patricia/Alison, sons and daughters (never quite sure why she didn't change her name back to Patricia after everyone eventually found out who she was?)
4. Jilly pretending to be nice to her sister in return to Eden when she really was so jealous of her
5. Katherine in Dallas pretending that she was sweet to everyone and then again Katherine in the blond wig throwing tomato juice at traumatising images of Jenna and Charlie Looking happy and then K running Over a much loved character over
6. Wes as jock
7. Neal as alexis lol that wig he wore as the drag imposter
8. Rita as krystle (like how thick was Blake? Really???!!!) fun and clever to see Linda fight herself though! I remember the national enquirer cover of that back in the day
9. Jack as dimitri
10. Beryl as ruby, sons and daughters

1. Wes Parmalee as Jock Ewing: the most heartbreaking ... well, I can't even call him an impostor as to me he was really was Jock.

2. Petey Simpkins as Peter Hollister: in a way, the most pathological impostor -- he kinda sorta believed he really was Greg's brother.

3. Pamela Rebecca Barnes as Rebecca Sutter: the most shocking reveal of an impostor -- yes, in hindsight, it's completely obvious, but I swear, until the scene where she said she liked Chinese food and then killed her fake brother, I never twigged.

4. Rita as Krystle: the funniest impostor (her sheer bewilderment when Sable compliments her on "your divine Boucher")

5. Michael Edwards as Michael Tyrone: the most demonic impostor of them all -- although Michael Fenice as Chip Roberts runs him a close second. (Both Tyrone and Chip would rate a lot higher if their storylines had been more about them being impostors)

1) Kit Marlowe: Ducking and diving from the New York mob but managed to get a new life; for most of a season, assuming the identity of Greek billionaire Peter Stavros’ estranged step daughter Skylar Kimball. Peter had not seen her for almost 40 years. The real Skylar died in a car bomb meant for Kit – FALCON CREST.
2) Ben Stivers / Wes Parmalee: During the controversial dream season a rancher Ben Stivers worked at Southfork. He had an eerie presence, which Ellie was drawn to. When Pam woke up to find Bobby alive and well what became of Ben? Ben became Wes and the character commenced the plot of is he or is he not Jock Ewing, who vanished years ago in South America – DALLAS.
3) Rita Lesley: Krystle’s double who took over as Blake’s wife, after Krystle was kidnapped by film director Joel Abrigore and her niece Sammy Jo. Rita’s plot was funny in some respects, especially when she had to adopt Krystle’s mannerisms and Carrington posh demeanour – DYNASTY.
4) Gustav Riebmann: An evil German cartel head who had everyone fooled for a while, under the alias of French real estate business man Jean-Louis de Bercy. Emma got involved in a romance with Jean-Louis, while the other Channing daughter Julia was locked up by him, under the pretence that he was her psychiatrist – FALCON CREST.
5) Samantha Ross: Richard hired the attractive photographer, as part of yet another under handed scheme to acquire the wine business all to himself. Samantha became Melissa’s look-a-like.

Kit Marlowe has taken the identity of her recently deceased friend Skylar Kimball. Skylar is the step daughter of Peter Stavros, who he hasn’t seen since she was a teenager. A Mafia car bomb went off killing Skylar but it was meant for Kit. The fake Skylar makes contact with Angela, so that she can reunite with Peter and also escape from the New York mob, (a scene from season 6, 1986 – ’87):

Melody receives the phone call in the study. Angela walks in to take the call.

Kit (Skylar impostor): “Angela Channing.”

Angela to Melody: “Thank you!”

Angela on the phone: “This is Angela Channing.”

Kit (Skylar impostor): “Hello! This is Skylar Kimball.”

Freeze frame; closing credits commence, fade to black and the theme tune.
