Well, @Matthew Blaisdel, I thought I would get started with this show and I was pleasantly surprised.


The visuals are fantatsic, the characters look fun and the story is engaging.

The humour is good in parts, but I'm not overly fond of all of it, sometimes it feels forced, but I can get over that. It has everything I love about Star Trek, apart from the teleportation.

All in all, I'm really excited to get on board.

In the later episodes there are fewer jokes and it gets even trekkier.

The second episode was brilliant, I'm now officially a fan of the show.

The zoo idea was fantastic, from the way they abducted to the end where they traded them for reality TV, brilliant, simply brilliant. I need to figure out their names so I know who I'm talking about.

Is the show on a Christmas break, or are we just getting 12 episodes?

Just 12, s1 is over already. McFarlane writes almost all of them himself, wich i think has a lot to do with the great quality. He's a very devoted TNG fan and i guess this shows every single episode. But there's only so many good scripts you can come up with in a few months ... plus playing the lead character AND basically producing the whole thing as well.
So i prefer 12 good ones a year over 22 mediocre stuff.

I can't argue with that, I much prefer 12 episodes, though I would appreciate 6-8 for AHS.

But... I've loved the opening two episodes of Orville and I don't want it to end, so I would easily take on another 12 episodes a year. I know I can be a greedy selfish twat at times...

Episode 3 was brilliant. Very thought provoking in a true Star Trek way on interfering with other cultures.

I also liked how it didn't turn out as one would have hoped, which always happens on Star Trek.

During the fourth episode, a few things started flashing through my mind and I found myself echoing your thoughts @Matthew Blaisdel

"The Orville" still manage to give me a "Trek" feeling while watching their great episodes.

I'll watch "The Orville" instead, as this has much more "Star Trek" in it than the actual new Star Trek-show.

Hand on heart I never thought I would feel this way.

There's always been a glitch in this and I've never found the reason why, though if I'm honest, I haven't really looked.

I wasn't into Stargate, but I loved Babylon 5, BSG and Star Trek: TNG of course! That's why I love The Orville (not so much for the comedy), it is like TNG resurrected.

I enjoyed Babylon 5, but I don't recall ever finishing it. I have a vague memory of it turn boring after the shadow war (or was it spider?) and maybe there were some big cast changes. Though I'm not 100%.
