It's time to vote for our favourite sisters, specifically those sisters of a main character who weren't originally on the show but showed up at some point, some of whom may have gone on to become main characters themselves. More often than not these sisters were troublemakers but your favourite sister doesn't necessarily need to be. It also doesn't matter how long she was around for as long as she blew in from out of town.

It feels strange to leave out Abby Fairgate, but I decided to vote for those characters who never stopped being someone's sister.

1. Kristin Shepard (Dallas)

Because she wanted to have everything her sister had, then she shot it, and then she drowned in her sister's pool. Her legacy lives on when her child is being adopted by her sister's brother-in-law. I think that ranks high on the soap-o-meter.

2. Terry Hartford (Falcon Crest)

I think it's the contrast that made it so interesting: how could the show's heroine and this conniving, heartless gold digger be sisters?
Actually they did stop being sisters when it was revealed that Maggie was adopted, but at least they grew up as sisters. And she married her brother-in-law's cousin, so they kept it in the family anyway.

3. Caress Morell (Dynasty)

If I had to vote for the most fabulous sister then she would have been my #1. It was a delight to watch her scheming, lying and blackmailing her way into Carrington and Colby territory. Sister Dearest, however, was not amused.

4. Katherine Wentworth (Dallas)

She wasn't that bad right from the start, but circumstances and an obsessive love turned the family relationships a little sour, as it were.
Of course it's all Bobby's fault, he was just too sexy. Katherine = justified!

5. Rose Hollister (The Yellow Rose)

This was a double role, because the was the villain's sister and also someone's previously unknown mother.
Nevertheless, her brother killed her.

1. Abby Fairgate--the cul-de-sac's original "fox in the chicken coop". (KL)

2. Terry Hartford (FC)--how on Earth could such a skanky 'ho share genetic material with saintly Maggie G?

3. Claudia Whittaker (KL)--no wonder Greg never mentioned her.

4. Caress Morell (DYN)--the only sister with a TARDIS hidden away in her spare room!

5. Katherine Wentworth (DAL)--she was a lot more fun after someone blew her pilot light out.

Greg’s scheming sis did what she had to for her family. They didn't thank her.




4. Lady Jessica Montford
Dallas

Getting a little Dusty caused Clayton’s sinister sister to come on a little strong sometimes.

Sid’s ambitious little sis could do no wrong in his eyes. Beyond that, all bets were off.

The only thing I remember of Jessica is her theatrical speech (or introduction, or something like that).
Francesca Gioberti did something similar on Falcon Crest, but somehow it felt more bizarre when it happened in Miss Ellie's living room.

If there was one thing missing from Dallas in 1984 it was statuesque redheads who bared their soul to doors after people had left. Jessica filled that void perfectly, I thought.

Didn't she end up bundling Miss Ellie into the trunk of her car or something? I seem to recall something about it because it was so...Falcon Crest-y. I can totally see Jane Wyman/Angela getting shoved into the trunk of a car, but not sweet little Miss Ellie.

If this were a poll about our favourite pair of sisters, these two would be top of my list (even if one of them is a bit sh*t).

Alas, they fall outside the parameters of this countdown, so here's my actual top five.

1: Abby Cunningham - in my opinion, Abby made the biggest impact out of any blow in sister on any show (yes, even bigger than that gun-toting Kristin). She came along and carpet bombed the cul-de-sac, causing havoc in every house in the neighbourhood. She had the most interesting trajectory of any sister too, clawing her way from garage book keeper to millionaire power broker. All hail Queen Abby!

2: Caress Morell - criminally underused but when she did manage to make it onscreen, she chewed the scenery and everyone around her. It's a real shame the producers didn't do more to hold on to her.

3: Dominique Devereux - another of Dynasty's criminally underused siblings but at least she got to hang around a bit longer than Caress. While her "vendetta" against Blake didn't last too long, at least the producers had the good sense to pit her against Alexis, providing much entertainment.

4: Claudia Whitaker - I loved Kathleen Noone on Sunset Beach so imagine my delight when I discovered her on Knots Landing. The latter seasons of KL are a bit of a blur to me, having only watched them on and off once in repeats, but Claudia was one of the standouts of that period for me.

5: Kristin Shepard - the perfect "mischievous" sister, Kristin also played a part in two of my favourite Dallas cliffhangers ("She's dead! You bastard")

Angela: “For someone unannounced you could learn better timing.”

Terri: “I merely wanted to thank you, for your terrific advice.”

Angela: “What advice?”

Terri: “That I take Richard up on his offer, to become a partner in Tuscany Downs. You have no idea the opportunity it has opened up for me.”

Greg: “Well do you expect us to prise it out of you?”

Terri: “Greg you can be such a bore sometimes.”

Terri: “It is not official yet but I wanted you to be the first to know that in a very short time I’ll be changing my name.”

Angela: “Ah, you’re going to Hollywood and trying your luck at acting.”

Terri: “No Angela. I’m planning on becoming the next Mrs. Richard Channing. Don’t bother congratulating me. I know how busy you are. Ta ta!”

All my favourite sisters were greedy little golddiggers with a respectable older sister they liked to torment.

2. Michelle Stevens, aka Little Miss Tight Skirt, who ended up with Ewing Oil!
3. Terry Hartford, the blondiest little gold-digging sister
4. Christie Kovacks off of Flamingo Road, the sluttiest little sister
5. Caress Morelle, gave good purr but she ultimately proved endearingly ineffectual

Abby was brilliant, of course, but like Willie, I don't think of her primarily as someone's sister. And Katherine Wentworth was too rich.

She must have been the sister who had the most impact although she lost her brother very early on. She ended up being more important to the show than he was though.

2. Katherine (Dallas)
She played an important role too wrecking Bobby & Pam's marriage and scheming with JR. All while Pam thought her sister was on her side.

3. Michelle (Dallas)
Because she and April had the only normal sisters relationship on the show.

4. Kristin (Dallas)
Because she shot JR and then convinced Sue Ellen she had done it.

5. Amanda (Dynasty)
Although she barely had any scenes with Fallon. She did have a sister relationship with Adam and Steven. I really liked the addition of the 4th Carrington child.
