1.Morgan Brittany (Dallas, Glitter ) as Katherine Wentworth in DALLAS.
I love the character of Katherine Wentworth. She was an intelligent, wicked and complex woman who succeeded in breaking up Bobby and Pam's marriage. Her letter sure is memorable. As is her scheming with JR. I haven't actually watched the other show she was on but I think her performance as Katherine deserves my vote.

2. Nicolette Sheridan (Paper Dolls, Knots Landing) as Paige Matheson in KNOTS LANDING.
I must admit I have actually never watched Paper Dolls. But I did like Paige and what she brought to Knots Landing. She was there for half of the show which was a significant part.

3. James Houghton (Knots Landing, The Colbys) as Cash Cassidy in THE COLBYS
I enjoyed Ginger and Kenny on Knots Landing but they were rarely involved in any of the major plots. On The Colbys he just worked so well as Monica's love interest. It was all complicated with the child stuck in the middle.

4.Laura Johnson (Dallas, Falcon Crest) as Terry in FALCON CREST.
Although I don't remember much of her stint on Falcon Crest. But it was a more significant part. I seem to recall that she was Maggie's sister, involved with Richard and died in the earthquake.

5. David Ackroyd (Dallas, Knots Landing, Dynasty) as Gary Ewing in DALLAS.
I enjoyed the episodes when Lucy's parents were introduced on Dallas. Although I must admit that I usually refer to him as "the wrong Gary" just as to me Morgan Fairchild is "the wrong Jenna." Simply because I can't really imagine anyone else in the roles but Ted Shackelford as Gary and Priscilla Presley as Jenna. So I think the recasts worked very well. Yet David Ackroyd did originate the Gary Ewing character so I will give him credit for that.

Some interesting stuff coming up here. I never knew about Gary #1 showing up in Knots Landing to mix with Gary #2.

One thing that I was wondering, does anyone know which actor / actress starred in the most 80's soaps? There's a few I can think of that did 4 (Morgan Fairchild and Ray Wise) but given the number of soaps in primetime in the 80's (both long running & shortlived), I'm sure there must some actors that clocked up parts in quite a few.

Peter White was on Falcon Crest, Dynasty, Dallas, Knots Landing and The Colbys! In fact after I voted I thought I should have given him an honourable mention for managing to be in all five of those.

Here's his IMDB for the characters he played and when: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0925320/

There are too few soap shifters on Primetime. I haven't seen all seasons of Falcon Crest or Knots Landing. Never seen The Colbys or Flamingo Road or Paper Dolls. I unfortunately have to pass this round. But I can do a list for Daytime soap shifters:

Susan Flannery - best as Stephanie Forrester, B&B
John McCook - best as Eric Forrester, B&B
Tracy Melchior - best as Kristen Forrester, B&B
Winsor Harmon, best as Thorne Forrester, B&B
Lesli Kay - best as Felicia Forrester, B&B
Rick Hearst - best as Whip Jones, B&B
Lane Davies - best as Mason Capwell, Santa Barbara
Nicolas Coster - best as Lionel Lockridge, Santa Barbara
Louise Sorel - best as Augusta Lockridge, Santa Barbara
Sam Behrens - best as Gregory Richards, Sunset Beach
Laura Wright - best as Carly Corinthos, GH
Kirsten Storms - best as Maxie Jones, GH
Eileen Davidson - best as Ashley Abbott, Y&R
Peter Bergman - best as Jack Abbott, Y&R

I've had a look and I've actually remembered one actress who appeared in six different soaps. Bibi Besch was in Dallas, Dynasty, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, The Hamptons and Secrets of Midland Heights.

Oh yes she was really good. She was Sue Ellen and Jill Bennett’s shrink, Krystina Carrington’s surgeon and the prosecuting attorney in some FC trial or other - maybe Lance’s when he was accused of trying to kill Angela. She later appeared as yet another shrink on Melrose Place just before her death.

I agree, she was an amazing actress. I also remember how she rolled her eyes during the FC trials: she did it even better than Knots´ Constance McCashin...

My apologies. I had a moment of forgetfulness. How could I forget dear Timothy Patrick was on Glitter as well as Dallas?! He was so sweet. So my urgently adjusted list is as follows. Sorry Frank Crutcher. I don’t think you could pull off a Speedo like Mickey.

1. Mickey Trotter
2. Mark Graison
3. Katherine Wentworth
4. Jenna Wade I
5. Richard Channing

In this pic Mr. Robertson (left) seems not to care about speedos...

I thought Glitter was similar to Hotel (and Love Boat), format-wise?

I agree. I never considered Glitter to be a soap. There was no continuing storyline and each episode had self-contained storyline that was mainly driven by characters who only appeared in that one particular episode. If Glitter is a soap then so is Columbo!

There was a scene, I think party at Karen's or the Avery's house in which the 2 Garys met for about one second. They briefly smiled at each other and walked away. I always wondered if the director of that episode kept them apart deliberately because it would have been weird if they had a proper scene together.

And complicating matters even further, Gary #2 learnt about Jock's helicopter crash in Dallas that same week (albeit off-screen), so he was sort of in two realities at the same time as there were two Garys in the same room.

I'm beyond curious about the conversations David had with Ted, Joan and pretty much anyone else during the making of this episode. The "two Garys" thing must have been acknowledged at some point, even if only in passing.

But somehow I imagine it's been forgotten by anyone who was there, so we may never know.

This is the kind of stuff that makes me sad about not being a Time Lord.

Oh gosh I’m too embarrassed to amend my list a third time because then I’d have to take out Katherine Wentworth as Morgan was on glitter. Please just go back to my first list and ignore Katherine. Someone else had put glitter in aswell with Morgan so I thought it was fine. Soz. Looks like Frank not in speedos or clothes Crutcher is back in ;-)
