But there's no denying that some of these Westerns are very well made.
RED RIVER (1948) is about a big cattle enterprise facing various obstacles, most notably the characters themselves.
It's a good and unsentimental drama but it's
almost ruined in the last act when a female character is introduced. The way she chews the scenery doesn't fit the tone of the film at all.
I would have liked to see more of the bromance between Matt and Cherry.
There are a few scenes during darkness that have an almost eerie undertone, as if I was watching the ghosts of these cattle men, and the subtle score (which is far from subtle in everything else in the film) works very well in those scenes.
