You must have missed the new Telly Talk policy. If you miss a day on Telly Talk you get a suspension. :yikey:

I'm kidding of course. The events of September 2016 always comes to mind when the site is down. I'm glad it's back up.

It would be good if the site owner could give us a reason for this issue. Being more transparent would help and avoid unnecessary speculations.

Who runs the site anyway? Since the site falls under EU jurisdiction as it's accessible from Europe, it has to be GDPR compliant, but I couldn't find any contact information when I wanted to inquire about the suspension.

Does anyone know why accounts were suspended recently?

While the message gives the impression that it's the member's account that's suspended, it actually relates to the site itself. It has been a recurring issue, and members may have noticed other issues on the site relating to features such as email notifications, so it's not functioning as well as it did.

Ome's working with the site owner to get an understanding of what we'll need to do about it. When we're clear on the way forward we'll make sure everyone knows what's happening. It should be soon.

It lasted for about 3 days this time. That's the longest. The previous times this happened, it was 30 hours at most and usually a lot less.

The site has monthly costs and it is paid for by the guy who created the forums back in 1997. We rely on donations to keeps the costs down and the reason for the site getting suspended is due to lack of funds. The owner no longer posts on the forums but has been more than happy to cover the costs each month. We have a few regulars who donate when they can, however, things are tight and if we miss a payment the hosting site suspends us until we make the next payment.

The site has a rich history that goes back 25 years and with the exception of @Barbara Fan and @Daniel Avery all the other mods and admins have moved on and new people like myself and @Mel O'Drama took over to keep things ticking along.

There is no company running the forums, it’s down to one DALLAS fan who put it together and likeminded other fans who joined in and offered help with moderation and working hard to make sure we have a great community without bad behaviour that happens over and over on social media.

We are working hard at trying to find a cheaper solution and as @Mel O'Drama mentioned earlier, we will update everyone as soon as we know more.

This past few days have seen the longest time we have been out of service since the crash of 2026. This morning I thought it was going to close down permanently and the thought of losing all this again did not settle well as I’m sure everyone who plays a roll on keeping the forum’s interesting and fun to be a part of would agree.

It's understandable that it's difficult to maintain the running costs for the site. We (at falconcrest.org) know how expensive it is to run a website through a reliable host provider. It's difficult because too many people take Internet sites for granted and, despite quite decent traffic, not everyone wants to contribute to the maintenance costs.

Its so nice to see it back up and running

My heart always skips a beat on the 17th of the month as its down quite often now- but it skipped a bigger beat on the 18th - 20th when it still wasnt up and running

I have no idea what the running costs are in keeping a site like this "live" and Id hate to lose it

Perhaps if we had more idea what was involved re costs - more people on the forum would be prepared to donate

I couldnt die happy if i didnt know what @Mel O'Drama finals thoughts were on Crossraods and the extras on the box set, since it has also dominated my life since February and surpassed Dallas in terms of my postings!!

Nice to see the forums alive and well again. I wouldn't want 2016 to ever happen again, as I enjoy the discussions mainly about the eighties prime time shows and regularly input, particularly as regards FALCON CREST. I appreciate all that is involved in the upkeep, ever hopeful for a smoother running equitable platform.

The bill comes due on the 17th and that "account suspended" thing shows up if the bill isn't paid on time. Note how 99% of the posts in this thread occur on the 18th, when the site comes back up.

"Account suspended" refers to the site's account with the host, not the individual members' accounts with the site....I wish the host would come up with a better "card" to display, but they didn't ask my opinion. :re: They just want their money. And apparently they got it.

As a Dallas moderator - i would just like to say thanks to @Ome @Mel O'Drama and @Daniel Avery for their ongoing support and enthusiasm.

Several have fallen off the radar behind the scenes, and its Ome, Mel, Daniel keeping us ticking over.

Like many of us, I would like to know what the costs are to keep us running/month. And Im sure many of us would be willing to help out with £$ so we can keep on posting
Love BF x

It's great to have the forum back, I did fear that it might have gone forever this time.

I can totally understand, especially during the cost of living crisis we are all currently in, why you would need to look at reducing the costs of maintaining TellyTalk. There are several good free online forum hosting sites such as Forumotion, ProBoards and Boardhost which are supported by unobtrusive ads and could be a good alternative to the current arrangement. It would mean starting from scratch again as I doubt they have the functionality to migrate an existing forum to their platform but it would ensure the long term viability of the forum as it would remove being reliant of the kind generosity of the site owner to continue funding it. However, we have come back from losing everything before so we could do it again.

That's exactly what I was referring to in the OP-- I'm autistic (don't know if I told you), and as such, the first time I saw that I thought, have I done something wrong on the boards here? That said, all the clarification here has made me feel a lot better about it, and better able to understand when those dreaded words show up.

I would hate to lose it too, at least I was prepared this time, but it was down longer which made for some "oh no" thoughts.

I have no clue or understanding at all how these sites are run or funded, it would be beneficial to know this and if it's all safe to do so I'm sure more would be happy to donate.

It is safe to donate and we have the donation button on the right side of the main page.

We can continue on this platform if we have enough donations and to make it simple, the cost of a cup of coffee month would go to great lengths in keeping the forums going.

Currently, we have some server issues, out of date templates and the urgent need of an upgrade. I don’t know what that would cost, though I’m trying to find out more information.

An alternative would be to use a free site, but that would probably mean losing all the history and I’m not confident members would appreciate that and continue with us.
