Tobe Hooper has passed away at the age of 74.

He was a well-known film director, screenwriter, and producer, mostly in the horror film genre. His most recognized films include "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" and "Poltergeist". I've heard of the first movie and seen the last. Great entertainment, yet very, very scary to watch!

I just got that on DVD a couple of months ago -- first saw it on TV in 1979 and thought it looked and felt very cinematically creepy for a TV movie.

Legend, really sad to hear this. Absolutely loved Texas Chainsaw. And Salem's Lot too!

The only thing that didn't work all that well in SALEM'S LOT is the repeated coda scene when David Soul and CuteBoy are in the mission and the holy water starts to glow. Very TV. Oh, and finding Bonnie Bedelia at the end -- you should never have found out what happened to her, but assume the worst.

I wonder how the theatrical version they later released was edited.
