I dunno
Tyler Perry committed to delivering 90 episodes per year of his series to ViacomCBS in 2017, so it makes sense for him to end it especially if he refuses to get an actual writing room or leave the show to another showrunner.

I'm hoping that the second-half of the reunion special has a lot more behind-the-scenes/personal reflection type material than the first-half had. The first half had a lot of clips (well-chosen, but probably a it too many) but the actors onstage were not given enough time to interact, not only with the hostess, but with the other actors.

Maybe I'm just a little too wrapped up in the production side of things rather than just recapping the crazy plots, but I really don't get much out of their "fan interviews" where random people just recap the same plotlines we all watched and reacted to similarly.

An aside: My youtube feed suggested an old HAHN clip from when Mama Rose was arrested for DUI and spent a night in jail with Katheryn. I remembered the scenes (I mean, they gave Mama Rose a recliner to make her stay more comfortable!) but there was a great piece of dialogue between the two ladies that turned out to be meaningful. As Katheryn and Mama Rose were sniping at one another about why they were locked up, MR wondered aloud how Katheryn would feel if she was locked up "with a relative of that little girl who died". Which of course is exactly what happened, and the result was Katheryn getting murdered. This scene occurred long ago, but I wonder if TP remembered the sentiment and meaning of that line when he "brought it back" and enacted it for the finale. Mama Rose didn't set that woman up to be in the cell--Jim did--but TP's obviously writing them all. Or maybe he just forgot he wrote the original line and it's a weird coincidence.

Maybe I missed the confirmation, but I've never believed OWN "cancelled" HAHN. Oprah and TP are BFFs and the show usually finished as the highest-rated show on the network, leading me to believe that the show would not end unless TP decided he no longer wanted to produce it. I know others (Discovery Networks honchos) have some say in whether the show continues to air, but would they really cancel the highest-rated show on the channel? I have operated under the assumption that Perry decided to end it because he was so busy and had all that stuff in development with Viacom (BET) that he simply did not have time to devote to HAHN any more.
And since two freakin' YEARS has passed since the cast was together and doing new material, it would make sense that some of them might have moved on to other projects.
I'm amazed at how far ahead they were filming, but it makes sense considering the show is written and paced like a daytime soap. Also, there are rumors and Tyler Perry felt pushed out of OWN once Oprah started having success with more critically acclaimed shows and that is what led to his exit from OWN. If true, that explains why this show ended, because ratings were still good and the new shows they're launching don't have the same success.

I have heard of this, but hadn't personally started watching until I started seeing Veronica going viral on Twitter every now and then. I'm now halfway through season two and this is just what I needed. It is like the combination of a Bill Bell soap and Passions. I feel like had Tyler taken these same characters and storylines and added a full writing staff he could've had a classic soap. Of course with just him in charge you get the camp classic he ended up with. Despite it's issues, I'd love to see Tyler try his hand at a daytime soap. I feel like he's the only person who could launch one and have it be successful.

So in the second-half of the reunion special.....

A lot more interaction with the audience. People ask about favorite scenes, etc. like they typically do in these reunions, and one gets the impression the members of the audience were chosen/invited to attend rather than just showing up randomly. Everyone's dressed as if they knew they'd be appearing on TV.

Aaron O'Connell could have at least worn socks. ;)

The first 15 minutes are devoted to all things Hanna. One audience member asks how Crystal Fox felt about Hanna running over Jim. She says that it would be wrong of her to say she liked it, but she felt it "was necessary". Very diplomatic.

The next 15 is devoted to big ol' meany Veronica. Peter Parros explains how much he loved working with her, his voice sounding kind of hoarse (which might explain why he said so little in the first half). AR apparently got a part in a Broadway version of The Color Purple thanks to Oprah's love of "Veronica". AR used to push back against people calling Veronica "crazy" in the early years, since if she were a man he'd just be "ruthless" or "evil". But by season seven...yeah, bitch crazy. AR also got a bit nervous whenever people said they "loved" Veronica--she had to make sure they did not "love" her being a big ol' homophobe.

The studio audience was polled as to their "Favorite Death Scene" from the finale. They bring up several times in conversation the chance that Laura was killed in Veronica's place, and they also suggest that David could have survived the bomb blast. The "winner" (if you can call it that) is Katheryn's. Renee says she's always wanted to have a big, onstage death scene, but this one (which she says she had not watched before then) was a bit much. Gee, ya think???

The hostess asks everyone to speak a bit about what the show meant to them. These people can cry at the drop of a hat! Crystal speaks of how she developed a lot of confidence in herself and in her acting due to "Hanna". They all speak of how they all became a group of friends, not just co-workers.

It's a good send-off for the show.

Here's me bumping a three year old thread but . . . Why can't I find this streaming anywhere? As far as I can see it's not even on OWN. I was in the mood to pick it back up and couldn't find it on any streaming service. It used to be on Hulu.
