I think sometimes Bobby is evaluated a little too harshly.
Yes he was hot-headed, I did not care for it.
Self-centered? To some extent, but when compared to the other Ewings, Cliff and even Pam, not even close.
Remember this about Pam. When JR and Bobby were presumed missing, Sue Ellen said something to her
like 'can you go back to being Miss Barnes?' Pam didn't exactly deny it.
When Pam accused Garnet McGee of using Ray and then Upgrading,
GM had a legitimate point when pointing out that Pam did the same.
Pam's conversation with Julie Grey was interesting - that Julie could have been Mrs JR Ewing.
Wish that had been more developed.
Problem is that Pam was saying that as Mrs Bobby Ewing - it sounds a little preachy,
This is not a case where a woman enters a working class home of the husband's family and
has to do an inordinate amount of chores. The Ewings were a wealthy powerful family and Pam didn't have to lift a finger.
Bobby had a right to expect understanding from Pam, even if she disagreed with him, about Jock's will.
When a couple disagrees they should talk, not have one spouse egg on a situation that leads to trying to have his Father declared incompetent.
Leading any large business is not easy, and sometimes there needs to be difficult decisions and choices
with no good alternative that makes everyone happy
Not that Pam would know - she never made an entrepreneurial cent, and JR rightly pointed out
her accumulation of unearned income
I would even say that the writing seemed a little unsympathetic to Pam, in some regards
JR telling her that what was she doing in the south of France with Mark Graison -Holding Hands?
JR had a point (Yes I know Mark followed her but she didn't exactly discourage him too strongly
after leaving SF)
Not even saying that Pam had bad motives, she often had good ones, but her judgement seemed a bit arbitrary
It could not be easy living with the Ewings when there was the history of the feud,
and being caught in the middle, especially when Cliff was at odds with the Ewings
Of course there had to be some catalyst for a breakup, that is just the writing
Pam even had a good point when she told JR that she could help lessen the feud (Season 10)
but maybe that was extremely difficult at best
Rebecca's fate was not Bobby's fault. Maybe no one was at fault, but if I had to name one person,
it would be Cliff . Katherine was a baddie, but she had a point when chastising Cliff about Rebecca interceding for him
as part of an endless losing war with the Ewings.
Bobby was basically a good man with flaws. JR once said something like 'Bobby is a good man, just sees things as too black and white. Maybe that is the best description, especially when compared to the other characters,
