For those who are watching B&B again from the beginning: when do you think you'll stop watching?
I stopped in 1999.

I’ve been asking myself the same question and to be honest I’m really not sure when I’ll stop. I’m in 1995 right now and it’s not exactly my favorite time on the show. I really enjoyed it up until about 1991 but the last few years have felt kind of mediocre.
1987-1993 the years written by Bill Bell were the best. 1994-1999 were the decline. 2000 onward I have no interest in.

I think I’ve probably said this before on this thread somewhere but as someone who hadn’t seen the early years of the show at the time it was airing I was amazed when I first saw these episodes a couple of years ago.

I had no knowledge of Caroline, for example. I would hear her mentioned from time to time but never got to see the character for herself. She instantly became one of my favorites upon rewatching.

You are so right about 1994 starting a decline. I feel it might’ve even started a little sooner in the 90s but ‘94 and ‘95 have been the most disappointing for me so far, with 1987 through ‘89 being my favorite era.

Speaking of The Bold and The Beautiful, i didn't knew that Joanna Johnson who played Caroline / Karen Spencer in the Bold also sang, i just found a song called "Standing In The Rain" on Youtube, well her voice isn't like Whitney Houston but she can sing a nice decent song.

Joanna Johnson - "Standing In The Rain"

She also recorded a album with many covers on it.

I had no idea she sang either, and I’m embarrassed to say that considering she’s one of my all time favorite daytime soap stars. The things I learn here!
I didn't knew either that Johanna sang, and like you Caroline is also one of my favorite characters on The Bold, it was to bad she left the show so soon in 1990, but she did came back as her twinsister Karen but i still missed Caroline, i wish she stayed a couple more years.

She also created Hope and Faith, which featured a soap star as one of the characters, mirroring Joanna and Kelly Ripa's real life roles.

For me, Caroline was gone way too early in the show’s run. But as much as I loved Caroline, I never could quite warm up to Karen. It was great having Joanna back on the show but I think overall the fans wanted her as Caroline, Maybe had Karen been written differently things could’ve gone better but somehow they should’ve found a way to bring her back as Caroline in my opinion. Considering how many times Taylor came back from the dead and Sheila still continues to til this day would it have been that much of a stretch?

German fans can rejoice, because from October 2024 two new DVD box sets of B&B will be released, which unlike the previous ones will no longer contain only 25 episodes, but 50 episodes! Fans who will have all 12 box sets will thus have the first 350 episodes of B&B on DVD. The last box set was released in April 2015, so the two new box sets are a very unexpected surprise.

In addition to B&B, 21 episodes of The Guiding Light (German title: Springfield Story) from late 1979 were also released on DVD in Germany, but due to poor sales, no more box sets followed. As far as English-language daily soaps go, the first 180 episodes of Neighbours have been released in Germany on three DVD boxes and the first 200 episodes of The Sullivans on four DVD boxes.

I think your right and i agree with you that they should have written Karen in a different storyline without any connection that she was her lost twin sister or something ( i can't remember much of that storyline).

And yes Taylor and Sheila came also many time back on the show so why not Caroline, she was one of the reason why i followed the Bold in the first place, well of course i always liked the first Thorne (Clayton Northcross) :love2: i wonder why he left the show he was the best Thorne they had on the Bold.

I remember when Germany was releasing these dvd boxsets from the Bold but i always fought they were a little to expesive with only 25 episodes for a boxset so i never looked back at these dvd boxsets, but i notice that Amazon.de sells them now for around 20,- - 25,- euro's per boxset that's much better then 45,- euro's that they sell them in the beginning, but maybe it would have worked better if they put 50 episodes in the first place but happy to now they picking these boxsets up again, woulden;t be great to have all first 25 seasons on dvd from the Bold?. :p:)

Clayton Norcross is one of the housemates of the new Big Brother season in Italy, which will end in March. Will he stay in the house that long?

I keep trying to resume my watch of B&B, but I'm stuck in an awful period. I wanna say I'm at the beginning of 1994 and not one story works for me. It's crazy how quickly Brad Bell tanked the show. I am tempted to skip forward, but I'm going to try and stick it out and binge through it, but it's hard.

Ronn Moss (The original Ridge) had a US No.1 hit as part of the band Player.

Channel 5 showed episodes from that year when they launched.

One storyline is where Taylor got amnesia and some Moroccan prince (played by Kabir Bedi, Gobinda from Octopussy) rescued her, leaving Brooke to marry Ridge again.

She's currently in a boring story with James about his past childhood trauma. That's a major reason I find the show boring. Can't say I'm looking forward to that story either lol.

1994 is where I start getting a little bored myself. Everything just starts to feel like we’re already rehashing old storylines. I made it all the way to mid-1995 and to be honest I don’t think it’s that much better. I’m taking a break for now but I intend to come back at some point. I know it’s a lot of peaks and valleys when you’re watching this many episodes but I agree that the show was much better under William than Brad.

A documentary about B&B's success in Finland in the 1990s, titled "Soap Fever," will be released soon. Here you'll find a report and an interview with the director:

The report claims (and I think this simply reflects the director's statement) that B&B had mindblowing popularity in Finland, but what does that mean? And is it really true? I think B&B always heavily promoted itself by emphasizing how successful the show was abroad, but I find it astonishing when you look at the numbers. At the Monte Carlo TV Festival, B&B was often awarded the title of the most-watched soap opera in the world, and specific figures were even mentioned. However, when B&B had fewer than 20 million viewers worldwide (out of how many billion people on Earth?) and was still being called the most-watched soap opera in the world, it seemed ridiculous, and from then on, no more viewership figures were mentioned. It's often portrayed as if B&B is particularly popular in Italy. However, roughly 5 to 6 percent of the population watches it (compared to only one to two percent in the US), and while B&B is number one in its time slot in Italy, it could be considered a hit. But even in the US, B&B is still number one in its time slot, yet nobody would call it a hit because US ratings are easily checked domestically, whereas foreign ratings require searching.

Regarding B&B in Finland, the director told Variety, "The show arrived during Finland’s worst economic crisis, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, when people had lost jobs, homes, and hope. That contrast between national despair and glamorous escapism felt cinematically powerful." I wonder how many Finns agree with this statement and how much of it is just promotional material for the documentary. I'm surprised that, given the many languages for which there's a B&B Wikipedia entry, there isn't one in Finnish, considering how successful it supposedly was there.
