Four young is very rare but is in the published range for the species. When the Game Commission was monitoring nest productivity (stopped in 2015), four young was documented once, and all four fledged. Like most birds, egg production is tied to the health of the adults and food availability—so that’s a good thing! The adults will be tasked with LOTS of food provisioning if all four end up fledging. It is also worth noting, other 4-egg nests have been documented as the result of two females laying in the same nest!</blockquote>
