Weird 1980s Prime Time Soap question

If you were not "popular" in high school(I'm sure you all were:) ), and you had a choice,to be popular, but you could never have or would ever see, any of the 80s prime time soaps, would you choose that? Knowing how much you enjoyed them at that time, would you forgo any popularity you might have desired at the time?

Jesus, no. That kind of popularity is based on so much ephemeral stuff, it's only valuable for about 5 minutes -- and that's sometimes all that it lasts. And the "popular" kids weren't always the nicest, nor even the most attractive. In fact, most of them had that "ick factor."

When I went to a couple of my highschool reunions, most folks seemed pleasant enough. Although the most "attitude" came from the girls who'd wanted to be socially-acceptable and still wanted to be (but weren't quite) and closet queens (not the butch married ones nor the never-closeted types, but the in-betweeners).

And the folks I didn't really like at 15 I found I still didn't like at 137.

Why give up the nighttime soaps for all that stuff??

The primetime soaps were airing while I was in junior-high and high school, so the popular kids were watching them just as I was. Being able to converse on what had happened the night before on ____ was what we did to be part of the cool kids crowd. So this question sort of baffles me.

When I was in high school watching Dallas may have been acceptable, but very, very few people were talking about it or as into it as I was. Also, it was on a Friday night so the "in" crowd was out at parties, basketball games or sneaking into bars.
As far as the other three go, Dynasty was seen as a "girls'show," I only knew two other people who followed Knots Landing as religiously as I did. I never heard anyone even mention Falcon Crest. There was no one to talk to when Julia was revealed as Carlo's killer and that mystery casket was interred!
I personally would keep my viewing of the soaps in the early to mid 1980s, especially KL, seasons 5-7 of Dallas , 2-3 of FC, and Dynasty seasons 2. No party or bar were worth giving up those:)

I would never have missed Dallas on its original UK airing for anything.

Thank goodness I was just about the right age to watch it. Although I don't remember the very first few seasons. :)

Yeah we all have our vices when it comes to the TV.

All the various different types of programming are there to entertain us.

Whether it's sport, movies, sci-fi or the good old soaps I'm sure all of us enjoys what's on the goggle box in the corner. :)
