Were they really the "Young Couple"

Why is Gary and Val labelled as "The Young Couple" in describing the characteristics of each of the four couples. They were newlywed like Kenny and Ginger, not as solid as Sid and Karen and not as dysfunctional as Richard and Laura. I always felt that there was not a proper label to identify them and young couple is not the right one.

Yeah - that description of the four couples that Michael Filerman gave at the beginning of The KL Block Party seems like the Val/Gary and Kenny/Ginger couples got flipped.

I never think of Gary and Val as "the young couple". The "remarried" couple, maybe. Newlyweds, certainly. In that first season the term newlyweds makes me think Ewing rather than Ward. Being youthful was pretty much Kenny and Ginger's raison d'être.

It would be interesting to know what the "Gary/Val" couple were like in Jacobs's pre-Dallas treatment. A starting-over couple would not have had nearly the resonance if we hadn't already experienced their story and followed them from before.
