What if JR had not died

The four things that nuDALLAS did right were: shooting in the fall and winter, casting Josh Henderson, JR's masterpiece, and the resolution of what happened to oldPam. (Okay, and maybe Mama Ryland).

But everything else was so wrongheaded that the ratings had plunged well before Larry died. So un-killing Larry couldn't have saved nuDALLAS.

Good points but there wasn’t much of a masterpiece as I’d have expected. I agree not much else could be done with oldPam but no way JR’s masterpiece was to get Christopher his mother’s money. I also don’t think prolonging the outcome of JR’s death would have been un-killing him. I think a longer approach like with Jock would have worked better. I also liked Mama Ryland and would have eventually made her Senator Ryland and one of John Ross’s closets allies.

Watching Bum interact with Sue Ellen brings up a question:

Could Sue Ellen have gotten the upper hand from time to time if she had a person like Bum helping her?

Better yet - why wasn’t Bum working for Sue Ellen following JR’s death? Could have lead to a very powerful Sue Ellen which would have been fun.

I remember at the time feeling a little deflated about "The Masterpiece" scenario. Just the word masterpiece felt childish and not something I'd expect from JR Ewing. The JR of old - sitting quietly in his office - would conjure up a well thought out revenge plan. One day I may have to re-visit TNT Dallas and see if my opinion has changed.

Agreed. But if he used it I’d expect JR would end up with Ewing Energies, Barnes Global, Ryland Shipping along with control of West Star, Wentworth and everything else you could imagine. Not help give Southfork to Bobby, find Pam for Christoper and pimp out his son to Emma Ryland. It was a WTF moment that could have been a masterpiece.

Why a mexican hotel? It could have been elsewhere. I think that Cidre was influenced by her mexican heritage and wanted JR to die in a mexican hotel.

Maybe for her delusion of grandeur?
