Do any of you remember far back enough to the original forums?

If so, please feel free to add in and also correct my memory if you need to.

From memory:

SOAPnetwork showed Dallas reruns each day in the afternoon. You would watch the episode, then log in to SOAPnetwork and see the recap of the show. This part was read-only and not interactive.

The forums we are using now were email based back then. You would log into your emails and see:

Replied to the email "What if?"

And you would read their writings on the email. Then if you had anything to add, you would type it into the email and hit send all.

You'd log back in a few hours (or days) later, and see the new replies in the email thread.

It sounds cumbersome, but worked pretty well.

Good times. . .

This was always one of the biggest what ifs for me. It would’ve altered the entire show forever. J.R. never would’ve accepted John Ross (obviously) and then what? Does Sue Ellen move out with her son and leave town in shame? Do J.R. and Sue Ellen divorce much sooner? And what does Cliff being John Ross’s daddy mean for Bobby and Pam? Does their marriage crumble sooner due to the added pressure? Not to mention the scandal it would’ve caused the Ewings and the public relations nightmare that would’ve gone along with it.

Then all along it was Romeo Ray.

JR was horrible towards the unborn Ewing heir, but was a good Dad once he knew he was the Father.

Cliff never once referred to what he thought was a Barnes Offspring by name, only ever The baby, child or My son.

The Ewings and Barnes coo over Baby John wondering who he looks like the most, JR, Cliff, or Ray!

No! All those Jock & JR, Father & son scenes would mean nothing. Jock was and always will be his Daddy. How he would let JR get on with business knowing how bad he could be.

They had that special bond. Even when JR messed up Jock knew Ewing Oil was in good hands and trusted JR more than anyone.

JR and Cliff half brothers? No! Can't even entertain that idea.

Same with me it would completely alter the dynamics of the show if JR was Diggers son. Don't like that idea at all. The only way it might work if it was played out similar to the Wes Parmalee Jock Ewing storyline. However this time have a believable resolution which completely destroys the possibility Digger was JR's father. The resolution for Wes was too convoluted and messy. I didn't mind it being ambiguous but it was just too obvious that he was meant to be Jock all along. :)

I have a few what if? Dallas was the first show I watched where the sons are not all single like on Bonanza, Big Valley and My Three Sons so I wondered how it would have been if JR, Gary, and Bobby all not being married?

What if there was no Knots Landing and Gary was a regular on the show from the very beginning?

We had met more of Jock's family and Ellie's Garrison should have had children maybe three daughters to Ellie's three sons.

Dallas without JR and Sue Ellen and Bobby and Pam being married just couldn't work.

It was about the whole Ewing family from the moment Bobby brought his new wife home.
It was about the contrast of those marriages, the sweet good marriage as opposed to the dysfunctional abusive marriage. JR being married and his nasty cheating ways are what helped JR to be so nasty.

That's often been explored here. A great idea, but Knots Landing was a greater idea and thought of first.

I've said often how I wished Garrison had been in Dallas a bit more. A family of his would have been great as smaller stories.

Jock was recast, the battle for Ewing Oil never happens (It was popular, but it was never my favorite story)

JR continues to run Ewing Oil, Bobby enters politics, and is conflicted Ewing Oil's business activities,

Donna gains more and more power, Ray and Pam are caught in the middle,

Digger lives and sniffs out an oil field, Cliff runs the new oil company,

and the Ewing Barnes feud continues along those lines.

hmm.. after knocking off hubby Seth (using JR’s Asian double-cross as cover), Marilee swoops in for the big prize, luring Ellie to her death in South America and seducing and eventually marrying a grieving Jock!
