This is one of her standout roles as far as I'm concerned. Gritty, determined, I love that stuff.
I was really impressed with how much I doubted her character's grasp on reality as the film went on. I started out certain, just as she was, but as more and more happened I was convinced we were stepping into the shoes of someone experiencing a denial-fuelled nervous breakdown. I found it quite frightening that she went from this grounded character to someone whose word I didn't fully believe. And it only worked because of Jodie's performance here. Every moment is played for complete truth and there's no vanity at all.
The plot is also reminiscent of another of my favourites - the British mystery So Long At the Fair, starring Jean Simmons and Dirk Bogarde.
This rings a bell but I'm fairly sure I've never seen it. Perhaps it needs to be added to my ever growing bucket list of films.
