What was your first car?

Mine was an ancient red Ford Escort Estate similar to this one. Although, mine was less shiny and had more dint's lol

It guzzled petrol, leaked oil, the heater didn’t work and it let in the rain. I paid £200 for it and I sold it for scrap a year later for £200, it’s the best deal on a car I’ve ever had.

For all its faults, I’ve never loved a car as much as I did my first car.

Oh, mine was a 1980 Datsun. Looking back, it was a horrid lemon of a thing, but I loved that lemon like no other. I think you overlook a lot when a car gives you your first big taste of freedom. It had no a/c, the radio buttons had been "pushed to death" (they no longer worked), vinyl seats (!!) and a muffler being held up by a piece of rope! Of course it was 1988 before I'd gotten hold of it.

I ended up replacing at least six or eight parts of it during the two years I owned it. The alternator died while I was driving home and sucked the battery dry. I hit a bump that snapped the timing belt. The hand crank for the passenger-side window broke off in my dad's hand. The car had a bad habit of overheating, so if I sat idling for any length of time, I had to turn on the (engine-block) heater to draw as much heat away as I could.

I should mention that he completely rebuilt my car.

1974 Ford Gran Torino Elite. Sadly, I have not photos of the actual car. It was black with a red interior. Power came from a 351 (5.8 liter) Cleveland for you automotive enthusiast. I bought it for about $1500 and kept it for about two years. Nice car but very thirsty.

We sold it in 2008. According to Car Info, my precious Sigge (yes, I name all our cars) was stolen last summer and is still not found.
