He repaid her for helping his show become # 1 for the year by firing her a year later and replacing her with an American nobody with average looks and paying a short, helmet haired girl who couldn’t hide her British accent, not very good actress only capable of daytime dreck, that was despised by the audience $30,000 an episode.
We were supposed to believe 2 young billionaire studs were fighting over this girl (who was pretty but come on not gorgeous) all she did was cry and act miserable.
Fallon Carrington was one of the best characters created for television and perfectly cast. Much more of an interesting bitch than her extravagant mother ever was , even when the writing failed she still was extremely popular with the audience. Her scenes with her TV mother and father, brothers, step mother had perfect chemistry as with all her other cast mates
Bad decisions galore, I bet if Spellings thespian daughter was of age he would have cast her as Amanda 2
Season 6 should have been the height of the series. If any soap could have held up against Cosby and the sitcoms it was Dynasty,

To think we could have been rid of the Pollocks. However, even I have to admit that the first four episodes of Season 5 didn't work -- and it seemed to improve, vaguely, after the Pollocks came back.
These first four episodes were kind of drab, like the 8th season of "Falcon Crest".
Camille Marchetta's work was very logical and quite clever but also a bit boring and I think Esther Shapiro realized it quickly, which is why she asked the Pollocks to be back as consultant (they became executive producers from season 6 on).

Weren’t the first few episodes of season 5 dealing with the “death” of Fallon and Alexis in Jail.
If I’m recalling correctly then they should have been drab and somber.
Blake got over his daughters “ death “ a lot faster than his sons a couple seasons earlier. I think there was a even a scene where Krystle is telling him basically to snap out of it.
The glamour and camp would have returned
The Pollocks never should have been brought back, you hired someone to do a job- let them.
What ruined 5:
*The Pollocks
*John Forsythe refusing to cheat on his TV wife (it had to have weirded out his real one a bit)
*Bad casting of potentially good characters:
Rock and Allie (Richard chamberlain and Angie Dickensen wound have been perfect casting but it only would have worked if they actually cheated and fell in love )
*Emma Samms
*If you’re going to have a bunch of episodes set in Mexico how about spending some cash and filming some scenes there instead of a set with no windows in LA
I would have liked to see Alexis’ walk on the beach with that get up she was wearing
What made it dumb:
*Rock and Michael rescuing prisoners of war
* that horrible picture of young rock and Linda at a picnic (what kind of prop dept did that show have )
* Linda playing a middle aged southern struggling actress who happens to sit next to Sammy Jo in a bar in nyc
What made it great:
Catherine Oxenberg,

I'm not a fan of the Pollocks either, but the first four episodes of Season 5 were the wrong kind of drab. They weren't somber and melancholy, befitting a wake -- they were just boring.

That said, I would have brought someone else in help who weren't named Bob and 'Mike'.

Yeah, that stuff didn't help.

Season 6 should have held up in at least the top 10 if not 5 in the ratings, it wouldn’t be number 1 anymore but neither would Dallas, it was The Cosby Show that would with lesser sitcoms riding its coattails.
Just imagine if Dallas replaced BBG with a British star of a daytime soap.
At least they tried to get someone with experience and a name but it still didn’t work.
They quickly saw their mistake and corrected it,
In their defense Miss Ellie needed to be there,
Fallon didn’t anymore

Tune in to Watch what?
Karen Celini
Wasn’t it season 7 where fake Fallon warned fake Amanda about how bad her new bf was, smiling the whole time. Obviously the poor girl wasn’t given any real direction for her character
When did CO Amanda ever smile.
Two horrible recasts together, maybe they were cocky that since they redid Steven that it didn’t matter, he worked adequately but for the real fans he wasn’t Steven
Too bad they didn’t film fake Amanda drowning in the lake, I’m sure she would have been smiling through the whole horrid scene, bobbing up and down in the water grinning ear to ear.
But they didn’t even bother doing that she just went to England (why she was American) and we got Leslie (an American from Australia?)
It should have been canceled after season 7
They had zero respect for the audience and shouldn’t have made any more money with it.
Producers writers and cast, making boatloads of money phoning it all in,
The producers blaming a young hopeful actress, publicly humiliating her was unforgivable, it was their fault,
No wonder Karen was never heard from again and the other one went back to daytime

Dynasty lost both #1 overall and highest rated drama in 1985/1986. Those honors went to The Cosby Show and Murder She Wrote respectively.

I would have loved to have seen the reactions of Aaron Spelling and Joan Collins when they saw the ratings for October 2, 1985 episode The Homecoming. That was the first time Dynasty finished behind Murder She Wrote in the weekly ratings.

Really? Why? I'm not sure Joan would have been all the surprised. And cynical Aaron, either.

By mid-season, Eillen Pollock had already taken to publicly blaming Linda and Joan for the slide anyway.

If all the stops meant hiring special guest stars that weren’t special than yes
If that were true he would have:
*Made sure the writing and season long arc was coherent instead of them doing fragrances and other crap.
*Location shoots in exotic locales, weren’t these people jet setters. The only palm trees we saw were the ones in LA
Dallas shot in China for gods sake and yes in Dallas
* maybe actually shoot a bit at Fioli
*Hired some really big names to guest star
*Tell john Forsythe that Linda wasn’t actually his wife and it would have only been make believe cheating (I’m sure it wasn’t in his contract not to have affairs and he was fine with all the other garbage they had his character do - be stupid for one )
* reject the Rita plot- strictly daytime not worthy of this show or the audience
* made PSM honor her 1 year left in her contract (for her own good at least)
At the very least make her do a few episodes in season 5 to write the character off properly (she couldn’t do a couple weeks in the studio?? What else was she doing )
* no need to hire Emma Samms for her name recognition and nothing else knowing she was all wrong for the part

Well, Hong Kong, yes. And even Moscow!

Spelling was well-known for running a tight budget -- he would allow LOVE BOAT to go on an actual cruise twice a year. But paltry little DYNASTY was not allowed to go on location basically ever (except to Filoli for the 1980 pilot, and the 1983 Carousel Ball in Denver inside).

But somehow, those constraints fit what the show mostly was: small, nervous and less than the sum of its parts.

Some fans think I'm too harsh on Season 3, but that's when "the change" happened, when the show's potential was still clearly in view. Which made it more painful.

that’s 100% correct but it was still fun.
When it got to this point it was long gone.
Keep your show on point, don’t spread your resources too thin when the genre was already fading for greed .
Fallon got hit by a car and was temporarily psychologically paralyzed realizing everyone was right especially her mother. Then bitching out the help and running off, were we not supposed to remember either??

Pamela Sue had “it”
Poor Emma did not, writing withstanding she didn’t possess what Pamela Sue had that made her interesting
Don’t recast
Write a new character and give them a new name.
Between Rita and the recast it was strictly daytime by season 6 and trying to launch another Dynasty was too late and too little
