Gotta be "One Day at a Time" ('75-'84) version, for me......

How it managed nine seasons, I will never know...

In the UK it surely has to be The Office with the awful Ricky Gervais, this loathsome show more than any other typifies the decline in British comedy in the last twenty years or so.

The Big Bang Theory: I find it smug and unfunny. Watch some of the "TBBT without the laugh track" videos on YouTube to see it in all it's stripped back awfulness.

Mrs Brown's Boys: the critics hate it but it's among the highest rating shows on Irish and UK TV, leading to "the public loves us, so the rest of you who don't are just snobs" type accusations from the cast. IMO, it's poorly written and very badly acted. The bulk of the cast are members of the same family, so the quality of performances is all over the place given that all you seem to have to do to get a starring role on the show is be an O'Carroll or be married to an O'Carroll. At best, it's an amateur cabaret show that's somehow found it's way onto primetime TV.

Last Of The Summer Wine - went on for 20 odd years and as a child when it started I was forced to watch it (only had 3 channels back then). One of the reasons I still detest "quaint" shows on Sunday nights.

Agreed, again Mrs Brown's Boys is another example of the utter lack of creative talent (writers as well as actors) if it is somehow regarded as a classic sitcom. It remains a mystery how it was ever commissioned.

Veronica's Closet was one of many unfunny sitcoms that ended up in the post-Seinfeld slot on NBC Thursday nights. NBC used to build horrible sitcoms around otherwise bankable stars, and place these turkeys in their best time slots. I can only call it a "hit" because it rode Seinfeld's coat-tails; I can't recall anyone ever saying "Oh, I can't wait for Veronica's Closet to come on tonight," and it is telling that after its run, it was never seen (in reruns) ever again.

Absolutely Fabulous

I loved the original run (the first three series & The Last Shout special that was supposed to wrap it all up) when I watched it first time around. However, when I watch it now, there are glaring problems with the show, particularly series one. I read Jennifer Saunders book and she talks about submitting handwritten scripts, the night before filming was supposed to take place and you can see it. Series one is full of over long, meandering scenes without a laugh near them. Series two and three are what I think we all recall nostalgically as "classic Ab Fab". However, everything that came after them (including the specials and the film) have been pretty unremarkable bar a scene here or there.

Interesting that you point that out because I'm pretty sure it hasn't seen the light of day on Irish or UK TV for years either and our digital channels rerun all kinds of mediocre muck. Originally, it aired alongside Friends on Monday nights and was hailed as the "new hit US sitcom" but even as an unsophisticated teenage viewer, I knew Veronica's Closet was a mess.

A couple of years ago I managed to watch the Pilots of the most famous sitcoms of the 4 last decades because I wanted to re-watch or discover something lighter to laugh. So far, the only one I am finishing is "The Golden Girls" (and "AbFab"). I´m also watching episodes of the first season of "I Dream of Jeannie". But the whole pack of sitcoms did nothing to me. At least not enough to do a complete re-watch or one season only.

I did laugh with "The Nanny", but all the others seemed to me a big waste of time (even the Duffster´s "Step by Step"). I don´t know if I´ll dare to start with "The Nanny".

I´ll do watch the UK version of "The Ropers" ("George & Mildred") because I loved "Man About the House" and I adore those two actors. But after that? I don´t really know.

I think I´d better give a chance to something from the 60´s ("The Addams Family", "The Munsters"...) than any other sitcom produced afterwards. I see the ones from the 70´s indigestible, the ones from the 80´s horribly tacky, and the ones from the 90´s more outdated than all those I mentioned.

Am I that weird?

Nitpicking here, but The Ropers is actually the American version of George & Mildred. G&M are the originals.

Hope you enjoy watching it, Toni. You're right - they're two of the best.

The Nanny is one of my all-time favorite sitcoms. Fabulous ensemble with really great humor/writing...but with a lot of heart behind it. Fran Drescher ought to be considered among the best female sitcom leads, but the show doesn't get much respect.

I knew it, I just expressed myself badly (blame it on Miss Piggy, who was trying to call my attention by dancing can-can...). It was "Man About...", then the movie, then "G & M" and "Robin´s Nest" (which I only watched partly and was the worst of the three), and then there they go to USA...

The Nanny (6 bloody seasons)
I couldn't stand Fran. The "jokes" were not funny. Half the cast couldn't act.
