Season 1 had plenty of mediocre episodes and most of us were just waiting for Alexis to arrive.
The bad episodes of season 2 were downright awful, but the good ones were far more exciting than season 1.

I just realized Anders says, "All 341 acres." That means the Carrington family is subletting part of their property as seen in the cliffhanger episode of Season 2. This explains how they are making those millions

I started to like season 1 with Alexis' arrival, till the season 1 finale. A very good finale.
Early Season 2 was disappointing, and a big step back. As someone mentioned, the time jump was a bad idea. Killing Cristal1.0 was a bad idea. Getting rid of Steven was a bad idea. Brenda is a cute actress, and I like her but it doesn't click well. She a zero chemistry with Grant Show... When they have love scenes, bed scenes, I don't buy it. At first I thought it was because of Grant. But I remember he had chemistry with Dania Ramirez in Devious Maids.
I didn't enjoy much season 2 until episode 13. And I loved much of the follow up till the "cold feet" season finale. I disliked the Fallexis farce. I love Adam. I like Liam very much, but he was better written in season 1 and early season 2. I still miss season 1 Alexis and Steven very much. If Alexis3.0 comes back, I'd like her to be more like the original Joan Collins powerhouse than the clownesque and directionless Edie Britt she was in season 2.
So it's quite difficult to chose my favorite season. There is so much pros and cons for each season. I'd say that I enjoyed more episodes from season 2 than season 1.

But there are too many things I don't like in season 2 to make a real difference. So it's a tie for me. I voted season 1 was, because there was no "tie" option.

I'm not sure how the writers and producers are going to accomplish this. When Alexis 3.0 returns we (the viewer) have to remember it's technically Nicollette Sheridan behind the facade since she created the reimagined Alexis. When Liz took over the role briefly she kept Nicolette's mannerisms and ticks assuming at the behest of the producers and directors. Having another actress turn up without any of Nicolette's personality would defeat the purpose wouldn't it? It such a quandary the writers have created for themselves.
I have ideas for Alexis return, and how to re-create her character. And to solve all the mess you mention. But as I said it, I won't give them away for free. My english is bad, but I have written a 1.800 words pitch for her return. With a purpose that connects with Fallon, Adam, Blake, Cristal and Kirby. And in some ways, Steven too. And it's only a pitch.
I won't said it's good, because all writers tend to think their ideas are good. My ideas are classic soap ideas, with a twist within a twist, within a twist. But all that works, because it's planned ahead.
Anyway, I am also earth grounded : I am a press writer in France (concepts, articles, fictions) since a decade, but I know how hard it is (near to impossible) to sell ideas and concept when you're an new american writer. So I don't expect a miracle for a french writer to do better.

I don't think the show is required to make Alexis 3.0 act like NS's rendition of the character any more than they required any other actors to imitate their predecessor. I think they only had Alexis 2.5 (Liz G) act like NS because it was part of the joke. Well, not "joke," exactly--let's just say the "gimmick".
In typical recasts of this kind, they bring in a new person and try to (superficially, at least) make them close to their predecessor to lessen the blow of a new actor in a familiar role. After a while, though, they slowly allow the new actor to look more like themselves and to put their own twist on the character. They will stop wearing their hair like the previous actor, or start wearing different types of clothing--superficial stuff.
Soaps can do this sort of thing because their viewers are more acclimated to recasts, even the more drastic ones.

Yes, and no matter what we think of "Fallexis" one can't deny that Elizabeth Gillies sold the hell out of it. I was apprehensive of it to say the very least, but she made it work for the two episodes it lasted. Not saying I want a revisit, or that it was even a good idea, but she made the ridiculous idea work as best as she could and kudos to her really.
