Trump takes Miss Ellie’s name in vain

Bill is gone so he won't see that. Nobody seems to notice that. I think it's a damn shame. Bill was always an asset to the forum but for some reason nobody has said anything about him leaving and why he left. They just pretend it didn't happen
There's a little too much drama-queeny stuff going on here.

I wouldn't call him a "drama-queen" just because he was disgusted with the political content that was allowed in the Dallas forum and decided this was no longer something he wanted to have anything to do with.

Or was that directed at me since I said it's a shame he left because he was an asset to the forum?

Anyway, he's gone, so why are you complaining now when you should be happy? Your group got what they wanted. They caused someone to leave the forum. Now there's one less person here who doesn't think the way you do. Bravo!

I don't think it's possible to formally quit the forum - you post, then you don't post, then maybe you post again or maybe you don't, but the door is always open. It's same for everyone. Unless you're banned, of course, but I don't think that's happened to anyone for ages (at least not that I'm aware of).

Oh for heaven's sake, that was one comment by one member and he could have used the report button for that, but that doesn't mean that a thread has to be moved or removed altogether.
We are all responsible for our own posts and it doesn't necessarily represent soapchat's stance on whatever issue.
Check out the Shannon Doherty thread by TJames. Yeah, it happens sometimes.

The DALLAS forum isn't some kind of holy place designed for JR-worship only.

No, you didn't get what you wanted, that's what this is all about.

Kenny Coyote

No, you didn't get what you wanted, that's what this is all about.

That doesn't even make sense. You think Bill quit because I didn't get what I wanted??? I suspect he left because he didn't get what he wanted - to not allow politics posts like the one that expressed a forum member's wish that someone would have taken a gun and shot our president in the head.

I wouldn't expect you to have the judgement needed to understand why that kind of thing has no place here or even why it would bother anyone. That wasn't a post a about a soap opera character; it was a post about a real person. Maybe if someone watches every soap opera ever made, they eventually lose the ability to discern between TV and real life. When someone gets shot it's not like how a soap opera would portray it.

"Do you know what happens when people get shot? They don't struggle for air and say something witty and dramatic as they die. They just fall on the ground, s**t their pants and have their brains come out of the back of their f*****g head" - Henry Rollins

It was in response to your comment congratulating "us".
to not allow politics posts like the one that expressed a forum member's wish that someone would have taken a gun and shot our president in the head.
But that comment could have been posted in any thread about any person.

And apparently it's very funny to imaginary "send" Cynthia Cidre bomb & anthrax letters.

You wouldn't know anything about that, do you?

I said I thought that allowing politics in the Dallas forum instead of keeping in the politics forum was something I suspected would be detrimental to the forum. That's all I can do; I can only make suggestions. There were other people who also thought it would be negative for the forum as well, but staff just made a joke out of it. It cost them a forum member. Seems detrimental to me.

But that comment could have been posted in any thread about any person.

It wouldn't make it any less distasteful. Combine that type of comment with politics though and you're playing with fire.

And apparently it's very funny to imaginary "send" Cynthia Cidre bomb & anthrax letters.

I wouldn't post that type of thing. When people take things to the level of insulting other people's countries and people's political leaders it tends to have an especially divisive effect. Realize that most people actually take pride in their country and have a certain level of respect for their political leaders. It's something completely outside the scope of what the Dallas forum is about for people to use it as a vehicle to express their disgust for other countries, their political systema, their political leaders etc. I don't see the benefit of allowing that in this forum. What value do you think it contributes? Do you see any, and if so, is it of so much value that it's important to allow it no matter what effect it has on the forum?

That remains to be seen.

I've never understood that kind of national pride. You were born here or there, it's not a choice and certainly not an achievement.
But that's also not what this topic is all about.

It was just a twitter comment thread and some of you turned it into big drama for no other reason than to support your idea that it would indeed lead to this kind of disagreement.

The forum has survived far bigger controversies than this, both political and non-political, just fine. Posters on the forum come and go, and sometimes come back again, that's the nature of the beast. As it is, we're talking about someone who hasn't posted for two days.

I'm tempted to say it's as big a deal as you choose to make it.

I've never understood that kind of national pride.

Is that unusual in your country? Here in the US we have a lot of pride in our country.

In the US we call it being patriotic. For us it was a choice because we're a nation of immigrants who actually chose to move here, starting with the people from England who were sick of the king of England telling them what to do. We rebelled against England, it was a choice, we did it for a way of life, to found a nation on the principles our country was founded upon. It was something worth fighting for and some of our ancestors died fighting for it but we won the Revolutionary War and gained our independence and the ability to do things our own way. It was every bit a choice and every bit an achievement. Every generation since then has done whatever they had to to maintain, to protect and to continue to build the nation our forefathers created and handed down to us. We celebrate it every 4th of July. That is Independence Day.

You may think I'm just a docile housewife Mr. President, but wait until my alter ego comes back and puts on her best sack dress. You'll be pulling buckshot out of your rear end for days!

Not being patriotic doesn't mean that you have be anti-everything.
I am very appreciative of my culture, in fact I consider myself very lucky that I was born here. All kinds of privileges given to me by the people who made that possible, so any hypothetical feelings of pride would only apply to them, not to myself. But like I said, I prefer gratitude.
The word pride has an unpleasant ring to it, imho.

Where's the "humor" in someone getting shot in the head?
Kenny did I imply such a thing? I was speaking about how we view others posts. Perhaps prior to creating a new post I should outline my thought processes each and every time so as others will understand my standing on issues.

"The following post has been created to be taken seriously"

"The following post has been created to be taken with a wry sense of humor"

"The following post has been created while drunk so I accept no responsibility"

Classy: Calling someone "really weird" when you know he's already quit the forum and isn't here to defend himself. You win the "Courageous Post Of The Day Award."

I answered after your comment and I didn't call anyone weird, I wrote:

"Really weird to be so sensitive about someone who did the same"

How could you read something else into it? Please don't.

The discussion in the thread is far from constructive and has gone rather off topic from what @James from London originally posted and has taken a rather nasty turn which i suggest needs to stop as its so far removed from its original intention

As @Willie Oleson stated earlier in this thread there is a process for raising concerns and a public thread isn't the place to criticise or apportion blame. To My Knowledge there has been no "reporting" of any post in this thread by anyone to the Mod team

Think we all need to take a deep breath and reflect, Thank you

I see lots of posts on this forum that espouse a political viewpoint - although they are unattached to party affiliation or dogma. This is perhaps what makes them so insidious. I’ve seen discussions hijacked routinely so that praise can be lavished on Dallas for its celebration of unreconstructed masculinity, or for its muscular promotion of the benefits of free market capitalism, or for its sound endorsement of patriarchy. How odd, then, that this rather lighthearted topic should have provoked such a frenzy of pearl clutching indignation.

I’m Laurie Marr and I approved this message.
