Dallas Drives: the cars used in the series

Thank you for the link!

Funny how some of the cars, including Jock's Lincoln, would still be fun to own today.

But then you see Sue Ellen's wood paneled station wagon. What were we all thinking back then?

my mom had a 70s pre-downsizing green Ford LTD wagon, no yacht-deck 'wood' paneling to be seen, then went with a beige '81 LTD. My sister and I thought they were terrible and embarrassing, but I bet I'd find the earlier one pretty cool now.

it was the one above - look at those luxurious formless vinyl seats!

That's another one that I suspect would struggle to be considering as a great driver's car, the handling may be a tad cumbersome.

And the less said about the car that Sue Ellen stole to flee the sanatorium.

It's like a lot of time periods - they have things people see as "cool" that later on, people will laugh at. Today the cars are better than they were a few years ago when they had no style. Three or four years ago and even ten years ago, the cars had absolutely no style. Today it's not the cars that will be laughed at in the future but something else entirely. Now it's the beards that will make people ask: "What were they thinking? What is that half-way crap? Did they want a beard or not? Either shave or grow a beard; don't walk around like you've had a rough weekend and were too lazy to shave"!

I know it will be like that too because back in the 70s, I remember someone asking my uncle why he didn't grow a beard again because he used to have one and it looked good. He replied: "I wouldn't mind having a beard again but it's those first two weeks I don't want to go through again, those first two weeks when you walk around feeling like you wish you could put a brown paper bag over your head."

Now guys are specifically going for that "first two weeks when you walk around feeling like you wish you could put a brown paper bag over your head" look! It's bizarre!

Don't even get me started on so many guys trying to look like Kojak. I'll just say there was a reason why that look did not catch in then! Some guys can pull off that look, just like Don Johnson could make the stubble look look good. That does not mean everyone can!

Getting back to cars, what make and model of car was it that Jack Ewing bought - that sports car?

It’s like my Grandas old - as they said in N Ireland - ‘jippy Lada’. It was red - my fave colour- with a red interior and red seats.

I’d kill for it now although I think they were all shipped to Russia...

Was Jack's a Maserati?

Might need to check!

A nice pic of Sue Ellen with Jock's Lincoln
Something I've noticed is how many of these cars are running around out here now. I think it's the combination of cheap gas and fewer people out on the roads, making them easier to drive and park. Been seeing them everywhere and of course I think of you all when I see them.

My friends, please look at the back seat of this Lincoln convertible. Talk about the pinnacle of Luxury!

The car is for sale in Galveston Texas. I'm tempted to go by and just sit in the back seat!

Wow, these are real beauties. 1977-'79 Continentals by the style of the grill. If only some automaker would make a modern car like these.

Back then, sister company Mercury had the same "Family Face" as the Lincolns.
Even Sue Ellen's grocery getter had the upright grill and the hideaway headlights to show it was more than a Ford, but less than a Lincoln.

We didn't see Ellie drive until many years after Jock had died. Presumably she had the private plate transferred into her name for use on her vehicle.

And here is another time that the writers got things exactly right and true to life. We were able to move on a tiny bit from Jock's death. Maybe in a little denial about it.

Then Bud comes to service Jock's Lincoln.

As in real life, we now have to face the fact that Jock will never be driving the Lincoln again.

When the writers get it right, they get it right!

And on a happier note, @Michelle Stevens can you imagine what Bud's truck would be worth today in this kind of shape?

Does anyone know what kind of car April Steven’s was driving in season 11? It was white. She and Cliff were getting out of it when going into the hospital to see Pam...
