Poisonous Tongue: The Sable Colby Fan Page

Stephanie Beacham said Sable was "the best of the baddies" in an interview once. She also said that she knew who Sable was the minute she realized the writers were going to let her be "poisonous with my tongue". I've seen little of THE COLBYS, but what I have seen, I've quite enjoyed. Sable was the spin-off heir of Alexis Colby, and the two characters were introduced as cousins (their "mommies were sisters") during the sixth season of DYNASTY which essentially introduced the Colby clan for the spin-off show.

Any fans of Sable out there?

I'm primarily familiar with Sable during her stint on DYNASTY in its last season. Yes, I know she made appearances on the show before, but she was apart of the main cast that final season.

I thought Sable had better "spats" and catfights with Alexis over Krystle or Dominique.

I understand why the Alexis-Krystle fights are so well-known, because they mostly happened during the show's heyday. My only misgivings about their spats are Krystle's whiny voice. She's too gentile and Alexis chews her up.... Well, until Krystle slaps Alexis and starts beating her up.

I always liked how they made Alexis and Dominique argue. One of my favorites is where Alexis shows up at Dominique's engagement party and the one where Alexis calls Dominique "a second-rate lounge act". Those are priceless bits of DYNASTY camp. Where the drawbacks come concerning the Alexis-Dominique spats is the way Dominique was wasted as a character. Had she stood stronger and been involved in more stories, the fights would've stood stronger themselves.

That brings me to Sable. I think she was the best component to Alexis. She was strong and had been married to a wealthy man from California. The fact that Alexis and Sable were cousins only fueled the animosity that they shared. They could write it to where Alexis and Sable had strong resentments for one another since childhood. And another plus was the fact that both ladies were British. Those clipped British accents were superb for their nasty one-liners.

I see where THE COLBYS set that I ordered should be here around Friday or Saturday this week. I'm going to test the DVDs the best I can when I get them so I can make sure they all work properly. If there's any defects, I'll just simply return the set.​
